📋 About This Mod
This is a patch for XP32. It requires you to have XP32 installed. Set it to overwrite XP32's files in your load order.
Skyrim VR is very particular about its skeleton. This mode removes the PreSHIELD, PreWEAPON, and CME nodes in the hands (up to the clavicle), making it like the vanilla skeleton. This seems to solve CTDs.
After much experimentation, there seems to be two general issues at play. The first issue is that it appears that Skyrim VR might be doing a text contains search for the WEAPON/SHIELD nodes, getting confused when it also finds PreWEAPON and PreSHIELD. Removing the PreWEAPON/PreSHIELD nodes stops the immediate crash-to-desktop(CTD). The second problem involves the magic nodes. If you try to use magic or your bow in-game, you will get a CTD within a few seconds. The only way to resolve that crash is to have exactly 8 child nodes in the hand: the 5 fingers, the weapon/shield node, the magic node, and the animation node.
I've experimented a lot with things and the only fully working solution I've come up with is removing the extra nodes and keeping the hands structured like the vanilla skeleton.
How to manually fix the skeleton for Skyrim VR
Open up the skeleton in NifSkope.
Go to the NPC R Hand node and set the number of children to 10 and refresh the children list.
In the children list, manually type the ids for each NPC R Finger#0 node, the NPC R MagicNode, the WEAPON node, and the PreWEAPON node.
Delete the CME R Hand and the PreWEAPON nodes. Make sure they are gone from the NPC R Hand children.
Use CTRL+Up/Down Arrow to move the empty children nodes to the end of the list, then set the number of children to 8 and refresh.
You should have a structure similar to:
CME R Forearm
- NPC R Hand
--- NPC R Finger00
--- NPC R Finger10
--- NPC R Finger20
--- NPC R Finger30
--- NPC R Finger40
--- NPC R MagicNode
--- AnimObjectR
- NPC R ForearmTwist1
- NPC R ForearmTwist2
Then, do the same thing for all of the CME nodes for each finger.
Double check NPC R MagicNode and WEAPON and make sure the NiFloatExtraDataController node's Extra Data Name links to the hkVis node.
Then, remove all of the CME nodes up to the NPC R Clavicle .
The final structure should be:
- NPC R Clavicle
--- NPC R UpperArm
