Installation

Description

The mod replaces Ulfric Stormcloak's war axe with the war axe model and textures from the Viking Weapon Pack by Alucardwk. This is achieved by using SkyPatcher and an ESP marked ESL.

How it Works

By using SkyPatcher, the ini file provided in this mod removes Ulfric's vanilla Steel War Axe of Cowardice and adds the new weapon Ulfric's War Axe of Cowardice, which uses the stats of the original axe but uses the war axe model and textures from the Viking Weapon Pack by Alucardwk. The ESP marked ESL is a required component to create the weapon record for the new axe, the static record for the 1st person model, and to make one change to a weapon script property in the quest Message to Whiterun.

Which brings us to why a patch is needed for Serious Civil War Consequences for Jarl Balgruuf by Enodoc. This wonderful mod expands on a lot of things, but in particular, the Message to Whiterun quest. The patch simply forwards the changes made to that quest and additional changes the weapon script property to the new weapon.

Some of you might be thinking, "If you are already using an ESP marked ESL for this mod, why even bother using Skypatcher?", which is a valid question. However, I did this for compatibility reasons. In order to change the axe that Ulfric carries, I need to make edits to his NPC record, which means a patch would be require for all Ulfric replacers that use an ESP. By using Skypatcher, this eliminates the need to patch this mod for every Ulfric replacer available, it is inherently compatible. However, if that Ulfric replacer's also makes changes to his war axe, essentially it turns into a battle of which is the better axe, and that is the axe that Ulfric will carry. He will still have mine in his inventory, but he might not use. Additional, depending on load order and if that Ulfric replacer also makes changes to the Message to Whiterun quest, the ESP loaded the lowest will win. I know that is a lot of technical jargon, but I felt an explanation would be helpful.
