📋 About This Mod

Description

This mod makes hunting more realistic, interesting and challenging and traveling less annoying by decreasing the number of animals per square meter. It's done by adding a chance of disabling each animal on cell loading, the chances are set separately for predators, "prey" and "ambient creatures" (following the internal vanilla types). The chances can be customized in an MCM that this mod comes with. It also changes the ratio between foxes and rabbits from 3:2 to 1:5.

The default spawn chances are (100% in vanilla):

  • []Predators - 12% (wolves, sabrecats, skeevers, bears, spiders, trolls, etc.)

    []"Prey" - 45% (deer, goats)

[]"Ambient creatures" -  20% (foxes, rabbits)

This is not how spawning is supposed to work in this game, it's just a workaround that's very compatible and easy to implement. This mod has the following limitations:

1) It only affects leveled (randomized) NPCs - it doesn't affect animals that are fully predefined (like the wolves near Riverwood that you run past with Ralof or Hadvar, which are always wolves, no matter which level you are). Including them would mean a lof of conflicts with other mods.

2) It can't disable animals that have an "Enable Parent", which usually means animals that are dynamically disabled or enabled for certain quest.

3) Since the spawn chance is individual for each animal, the chance to encounter a group of animals (a few animals that are placed nearby) is drastically reduced (depending on the spawn chances set). Fixing this is too complicated and unreliable if we consider all nuances and possible situations.

Animals in locations with one of these keywords are excluded and won't be disabled: LocTypeClearable, LocTypeDungeon, LocTypeAnimalDen.

Requirements

  • []SKSE (any version)

[](Optional) SkyUI - for the MCM

[](Optional) PapyrusUtil - for the MCM settings to be shared by all your saved games

[](Optional) powerofthree's Papyrus Extender - if you have it, animals that are a target of an active quest won't be affected (though, ususally this shouldn't happen anyway due to the location check).

Compatibility

[]Conflicts with other mods that edit LvlPredatorScript.

[]Place True Hunter before Animallica and Seasonal Wildlife Distribution.

[]Place True Hunter after Requiem.

[*]Compatible with USSEP, unleveling mods, SkyTEST, Wild World, No Predators on roads, Dynamic Animal Variants, Certainly Less Annoying Wildlife Spawns - CLAWS, Predator Animals Randomized Spaw

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2 to install — it's a simple ESP, but manual install can cause load order headaches
  • Check your load order — place this mod after other wildlife mods to ensure your custom spawn chances take effect
  • If you're on Skyrim Special Edition, make sure you grab the correct version for your game (LE vs SE) — the description doesn't specify
