📋 About This Mod
So a few folks had asked why their buildings looked so weird, and it's because TGCW uses both Winterhold (read: College of Winterhold) textures as well as Windhelm textures. On one hand, this is great! They benefit from your texture replacers! On the other hand, sometimes things aren't oriented the same way as the original textures and things can end up looking a bit funky, and when combining what might be two different "moods" for the different texture sources, they can end up clashing a tad (Chantry College of Winterhold is a prime example).
So this is a resource available for folks who want to keep the vanilla textures for these buildings while using fancy texture replacers elsewhere. The meshes in question are pre-built to include changes for lighting, so no worries using them with those patches.
Not going to spend a bunch of time on this one, just throwing it out there for those who might want it. If folks want to take these and run and come up with specialized texture combos just for those buildings and release that, by all means: please do!
Thanks to Project Clarity for the cleaned vanilla textures used
This mod adds separate texture paths for The Great City of Winterhold v4 and its COTN patch, letting you customize textures independently from the College of Winterhold and Windhelm. It's a utility for modders and users who want to mix texture sets without conflicts. With 340 endorsements and frequent updates, it's a niche but useful add-on.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-trusted with 340 endorsements and over 157k downloads
- Gives you full control over textures, so you can mix and match without breaking other mods
- Actively maintained—last updated November 2023, so it's not abandoned
⚠️ Cons
- Requires The Great City of Winterhold v4 as a base, so it's useless without that mod
- Niche utility—only matters if you're already deep into texture modding and want to avoid conflicts
- Potential compatibility risk if you use other mods that alter the same texture paths
For modders and power users who run The Great City of Winterhold v4 and want to customize textures without overriding the College or Windhelm. Skip if you're a casual player who just wants a visual overhaul—this is a technical tool, not a content pack.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have The Great City of Winterhold v4 installed first, or this mod won't do anything.
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2 to keep the file paths organized and avoid overwriting other texture mods.
- If you're using the COTN patch, install this mod after the patch to ensure the custom paths take effect.
