📋 About This Mod
After trying many perk overhauls, I can confidently say that my favorite one is IronDusk33's Synergy - Skills and Perks Reimagined. IMO, it balances the Choose-Wisely of Master of One (they both prevent generalist builds) and the Power Fantasy of Ordinator (they both offer 400+ perks in total). A TLDR explanation of Synergy: you start with a rank of 1 in all skills, you cannot level a skill until you unlock its respective perk tree, and once unlocked perk trees have no skill level requirements.
So why don't more people use it?
- It touches a lot of vanilla records. It edits the Player reference, it edits Races, it edits Creatures, it affects the Economy, and spells, etc. Anyone with a large load order would have needed considerable manually patching before tools like SkyPatcher, SPID, etc.
- It can be quite difficult. I've uploaded some patches to make it slightly more forgiving.
Available Files:
Synergy - Race and Player Patch - Skypatcher
- Fixes a bug where WeaponSpeedMult didn't work correctly on player vampires
- Makes Synergy compatible with any Race overhauls (load them after Synergy).
- Makes Synergy more compatible with anything editing the player record (load them after Synergy). A good example would be the many alternate start mods that change your starting inventory or remove starting spells, etc. Honestly, I think most alternate starts would need this patch.
Synergy - Keywords
- SPID and KID files that distribute necessary weapon and armor material keywords, race keywords, and spell keywords
Synergy - MCO Patch
- Light ESP that changes power attack perks to make more sense for an MCO play through
- Removed left, right, forward, directional requirements from power attack perks
- Removed backward power attack perks and replaced with perks that require full health instead (e.g. First Strike)
- Halved the dual wield "speed" buffs so they don't look too ridiculous with your MCO animations
Synergy - Speech
- Light ESP that nerfs the insanely difficult buy/sell price penalties when you don't enroll in the Speech tree. There's still a penalty, but it's more reasonable. For example, you can still buy Health Potions for like 80 gold instead of 200+. This makes it so you no longer feel forced to enroll in Speech every play through.
- Removes the price penalties entirely by merely possessing a Speech Skill Book. This makes it possible to buy/sell at normal prices without accumulating levels of experience in Speech.
Synergy - Aspiring
- Light ESP. Instead of only allowing new Perk Trees at level 1, it allows new Perk Trees up to level 3.
- You can still enroll in new Perk Trees, at any level, if you have a skill book.
Synergy - Vanilla Tome Sorting
- Light ESP. If you use a mod that re
This is a collection of unofficial patches for the Synergy skills and perks overhaul, designed to improve compatibility with large load orders using modern tools like Skypatcher, SPID, and Keyword Item Distributor. ✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with over 1,000 endorsements and 35k downloads—clearly fills a real need.
- Uses modern modding tools like SPID and KID, so it's built for current load orders.
- Covers popular combat and magic overhauls like MCO and Spell Tome, so you can run Synergy alongside them.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires the base Synergy mod and possibly other dependencies—make sure you have those installed first.
- Patches can be finicky with load order; you'll need to sort carefully to avoid conflicts.
- Only patches for MCO and Spell Tome are mentioned—if you use other overhauls, you might need additional patches.
For Skyrim modders who run Synergy alongside a large mod list and need compatibility patches for modern combat and magic overhauls. If you're already using Synergy and hitting conflicts, this is a must-have. Skip if you don't use Synergy or prefer a lighter load order.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Use a mod manager like MO2 to install patches and keep your load order organized.
- Run LOOT to sort your plugins, then manually check that Synergy patches load after the mods they patch.
