📋 About This Mod
A potentially overlooked feature of Spell Research is the ability to boil down artifacts and alchemical ingredients to receive esoteric solutions embodying one of the archetypes of spell-building. Rarer ingredients and more powerful artifacts can be reduced to more potent solutions, or several solutions of the same potency can be concentrated into a bottle of the next tier of their type. These can be studied to learn more about their associated spell-crafting archetype - alternatively, combinations of three of these can be mixed together to create an elixir which isolates a single alchemical effect.
This mod serves, primarily, as a patch for either Apothecary or CACO, giving these elixirs effect magnitudes fitting those in the relevant alchemy overhaul. In the case of CACO, where rarer ingredients can be used to make more powerful potions, the most concentrated elixirs will typically be your second- or third-best choice in terms of power, retaining the value of the rarest ingredients like daedric hearts.
In addition to the strictly necessary patching, I've also renamed the elixirs so they'll alphabetize themselves from most to least concentrated, much like the naming convention for potions in CACO. And to differentiate between different elixirs, I've given them a suffix in Ayleidoon, similar to the names of the solutions used in their making. Finally, the elixirs have a non-zero monetary value, in case you need to sell a few off.
This patch renames and rebalances the single-effect elixirs from Spell Research's archetype solutions, giving them Apothecary- or CACO-appropriate magnitudes, distinct Ayleidoon names, and monetary values. It's a niche compatibility patch for players using those mods, with 78 endorsements and last updated in September 2022.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Tight integration with Apothecary or CACO—if you run either, this makes elixirs feel native.
- Ayleidoon names add lore-friendly flavor for Elder Scrolls fans.
- Solid niche support (78 endorsements) from a dedicated community.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires Spell Research plus either Apothecary or CACO—if you don't run those, this patch is useless.
- Only affects single-effect elixirs; multi-effect potions are untouched.
- Last updated in 2022—may not be compatible with newer versions of Spell Research or the mods it patches.
For Skyrim players who use Spell Research and either Apothecary or CACO, and want their alchemy to feel cohesive. If you're not running those mods, skip this—it's a pure compatibility patch with no standalone value.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have either Apothecary or CACO installed before adding this patch, or the changes won't apply.
- Load this patch after Spell Research and your alchemy overhaul in your mod manager to ensure it overwrites correctly.
- If you use both Apothecary and CACO, pick one—this patch is designed for one or the other, not both.
