📋 About This Mod

◈ Description

This mod unpauses Skyrim's game menus, letting the world keep running around you while you're browsing your inventory, reading a book or viewing your map. Fully configurable — choose which menus to unpause, enable optional slow motion, player movement, and more.

This mod has nothing to do with Dark Souls aside from its name, which was inherited from its original creators. This mod is also known as "Skyrim Souls RE - Updated".

◈ Requirements

- SKSE64

Visual C++ v14 Redistributable

- Address Library for SKSE Plugins

- SSE Engine Fixes - with the Memory Manager Patch and Global Time Fix features enabled. This is technically not needed for the mod to run, but is highly recommended if you want to avoid certain issues.

Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch - The mod comes with some vanilla script patches, these are based on USSEP.

Unpaused Menus

The game world continues running while any menu is open. Each menu can be individually enabled or disabled in the INI file, giving you full control over which menus are unpaused and which behave as in vanilla. If you prefer menus to pause only while the player is in combat, this can also be configured in the INI.

Slow Motion

Optionally slow down time while a menu is open, configurable per menu. This feature is disabled by default. The multiplier is adjustable. Can be set to only activate during combat, so exploring your inventory on a peaceful stroll feels normal while still giving you a fighting chance when things get hectic. Note that slow motion does not stack properly with other sources of time slowdown such as the Slow Time shout or potion effects. Very low multiplier values (below 0. 25-0. 3) can also cause physics issues such as dropped items floating in place.

Player Movement

The mod allows the player to move freely while menus are open. This is enabled by default and can be toggled in the ini.

The following changes will apply:

- For keyboards, use WASD (or whatever you have movement mapped to) to move around and your mouse to navigate the menus. The menus itself will not react to WASD buttons.

- For gamepads, use the left stick to move and the D-pad to navigate in the menus. Make sure you're not using mods that disable the D-Pad navigation in menus. If you also enabled the camera move setting, use the right stick to move the camera. To rotate items in inventory, press on the right stick to maximize the view first. If using SkyUI,

💡 Beginner Tips

  • If you use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, install this mod manually or via manager—it's just a plugin, so load order rarely matters.
  • Test with a save before starting a new game to see if you like the added tension—some menus like the map can be tricky in combat.
  • Pair with a hotkey mod to quickly close menus if you get overwhelmed in a fight.
