📋 About This Mod
Originally the beginnings of an alternate timeline mod now split into a standalone mod.
The potential for singleplayer, co-op and survival add-ons felt worth going all in on the concept.
All signs of ongoing civilization have been disabled by hand.
Cities and villages have been destroyed and caves and dungeons only contain creatures and spirits.
There are no humanoid NPC enemies in Skyrim unless you install the optional file that enables them (including vampires).
Fort Dawnguard, Castle Volkihar, Solstheim and their NPCs are untouched and can be accessed using vanilla methods.
DLCs have been adjusted so they can be completed with your Shattered character.

===Installation===
Skyrim SE|AE -> Shattered -> Forced Creation Club Mod Patch (if you use them).
Skyrim VR -> bLoadVRPlayroom = 0 -> Shattered.
===Known Issues===
Skyrim versions before 1. 6. 1130 require an index incrementing mod.
You must manually place Alternate Skyrim.esp near or at the very bottom of your load order. LOOT does not do this automatically.
Any NPCs or objects edited by another mod, even accidentally will reappear in your Skyrim if it's esp is placed below Alternate Skyrim.esp.
Alternate Start mods are not compatible. The game will load infinitely when starting a new game and in most cases will not crash.
When using Engine Fixes with old Skyrim/SKSE versions the game may not start. Set EnableAchievementsWithMods = false in skse\plugins\EngineFixes.toml
If you cannot find the source of infinite loading or crashing there are likely Skyrim/SKSE/Mod version clashes that using an index incrementing mod can solve.
Vanilla mod compatibility focused.
Nearly unbreakable thanks to thousands of manual edits made with more than a decade of experience.
Brand new Navmesh made with 0 automation for every city and structure changed.
Shattered transforms Skyrim into a post-apocalyptic wasteland, removing most NPCs and leaving only undead, creatures, and animals. Cities are opened up, and the world feels ruined and empty. This is an overhaul for players seeking a desolate survival experience, not a separate worldspace.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solid community backing with 646 endorsements
- High download count (74,777) shows real interest
- Unique concept—turns Skyrim into a survival horror sandbox
⚠️ Cons
- Removing NPCs kills quests and story content—this is a total overhaul, not a tweak
- Compatibility is a big risk—most quest mods and NPC overhauls will conflict
- Last updated in early 2025, so it may not be fully compatible with the latest Skyrim updates
For players who want a lonely, post-apocalyptic Skyrim where survival and exploration are the focus. If you're tired of the vanilla world and want a desolate challenge, this is for you. Skip it if you want to keep quests and NPC interactions—this mod strips those away.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 to handle load order and avoid conflicts.
- Since this mod removes NPCs, disable any quest mods or follower mods to prevent broken quests.
- Check the mod's comments section for known compatibility patches with popular overhauls like Legacy of the Dragonborn.
