📋 About This Mod

OVERVIEW

This Community Shaders addon simulates ambient occlusion (AO) and indirect lighting (IL) using screen space information. Supports SE and AE.

FEATURES

AMBIENT OCCLUSION

Produces the darkening effect around objects that occlude ambient light.

  • []In exteriors, it applies only to ambient light sources and not to direct lights like sun light.[/]

[]In interiors, it applies to everything to compensate for the lack of shadowed interior lights.[/]

    INDIRECT LIGHTING

Simulates lights bouncing on diffuse surfaces, and emitted from emissive objects.

Includes a very rough specular IL that approximates the indirect lighting on specular material from True PBR or Dynamic Cubemaps.

    SCREEN SPACE

The feature only utilizes what is available on your screen, which means that AO/IL may pop in and out depending on your view, or be occluded by object closer to the camera.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    I see noises!

    • []For performance reasons, the default settings has been set to handle most cases with little noise and least cost, but there are still tricky scenarios, especially when the object is moving fastly, or when a bright light source covers a tiny fraction of the screen. Here is what you can do:

[]Turn up slices and steps, if your frame rate can afford it.[/]

[]Use full-res and TAA/DLAA/FSRAA. TAA adds an additional layer of noise filtering when full-res.[/]

[]In advanced settings, turn up accumulation frames. This will introduce more ghosting.[/]

[](IL only) In advanced settings, turn up blur radius. This will make IL more blurry.[/]

[]Turn down the effect radius, so the samples have less variance.[/]

    [/]

    How is the performance?

[*]It will be a tad heavier than your usual CS features. Such is inevitable of any IL algorithm.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Huge community adoption (7,211 endorsements, 1.5M downloads) – this is a proven, widely-used mod.
  • Combines AO and indirect lighting in one feature, so you get better shadows and light bounce without stacking multiple mods.
  • Works on both SE and AE, so no worries if you've upgraded to the latest version.

⚠️ Cons

  • Requires the Community Shaders framework – if you're not already using it, you'll need to install that first.
  • Screen-space effects can cause artifacts like light leaking or halos in certain scenes, especially with heavy mod lists.
  • Performance impact varies – on lower-end rigs, you might see a noticeable FPS drop, so you'll need to tweak settings.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who want more realistic lighting and shadows without the performance hit of full ENB presets. If you're already using Community Shaders, this is a must-have. Skip if you prefer ENB or don't want to manage additional framework dependencies.
📦 Install:Medium· 5-10 minutes

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you have the latest version of Community Shaders installed, as SSGI depends on it.
  • If you're using a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, let it handle the file placement to avoid conflicts.
  • Start with default settings and adjust the intensity in the CS config if you notice performance issues or visual glitches.
