📋 About This Mod
INTRODUCTION
Constellations (known as Sky Tales to the Reachmen) are collections of stars and other astronomical objects which appear in the night sky which form a perceived pattern. The constellation that is in the night sky at the time of year of a person's birth is called their birthsign (also spelled birth sign) or star sign and is believed to influence their characteristics and fate. Those born under certain constellations are said to be 'fortunate in their aspects'. Such people are often blessed or cursed with remarkable abilities or weaknesses as a result of the magical conjunctions of celestial influences.
This mod implements this concept into Skyrim, similar to previous TES games.
The aim with Birthsigns is for each option to provide some benefit to any character, regardless of the build or playstyle. Whereas a combat heavy character may have immediately disregarded some birthsigns in previous TES titles, now each may offer something to that build. For the sake of realism, a "Random" option is included.
The effects (bonuses and penalties) are lore-focused and themed in a way that stays true to the original concept of birthsigns in TES, while attempting to keep each one interesting and useful to any character. This resulted in a total of four base bonuses: one for combat builds, one for magic builds, and one for stealth builds. The fourth - just for fun (primarily non-hostile QOL effect was the goal).
In addition, each birthsign bestows two penalties, for balance and to encourage strategy. Not interested in penalties? I tried to exclude them, but its in the lore for some (Atronach, Apprentice, Serpent, etc.). Now, all must suffer.
FEATURES
[]Lore-focused and lore-themed: Bonuses and penalties for each birthsign are based (albeit sometimes loosely) on lore.[/]
[]Waxing & waning: Magnitudes of bonuses and penalties will grow increasingly and decreasingly stronger to match the cycles of the months.[/]
[*]Passive effects: No powers, activations, cool-downs, need for micro-managing, etc.,
Roleplaying in Skyrim - Birthsigns brings the classic TES birthsign system to Skyrim, letting you choose a constellation after character creation or via MCM for existing games. Each birthsign offers four base bonuses (combat, magic, stealth, and a QOL effect) plus two penalties for balance, all lore-focused and useful for any build. With 158 endorsements and recent updates, it's a solid choice for roleplayers wanting deeper character customization.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-tested with 158 endorsements and over 13k downloads
- Each birthsign is designed to benefit any build, so no wasted picks
- Lore-friendly approach keeps the TES feel intact
⚠️ Cons
- Penalties are mandatory—if you hate debuffs, this mod forces them on you
- Not a major overhaul, so don't expect deep system changes
- Potential conflicts with other mods that alter character creation or MCM menus
For Skyrim roleplayers who want the classic birthsign system back and enjoy making character choices with real trade-offs. If you're a completionist who likes optimizing builds, the bonuses and penalties add strategic depth. Skip if you want a full overhaul or prefer purely positive perks without downsides.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Use the MCM to assign a birthsign to an existing character if you don't want to start a new game
- Pick the 'Random' option for a true roleplaying challenge—you'll have to adapt your playstyle
- Check your active mods for anything that edits the character creation menu to avoid conflicts
