📋 About This Mod
Content Disclaimer: On occasion, Rin can be insensitive towards the other races of Tamriel, including Nords, High Elves, Bretons, Redguards, Orcs, Dark Elves, Wood Elves, Argonians, Khajiits, and Imperials from the Nibenay region of Cyrodiil. If you find this sort of content distasteful, you may want to refrain from journeying with Rin.
About Rin
Rin is a young Imperial woman who serves the Divines as a knight-errant. Although devoted to the Gods, she is not overly concerned with tradition and ceremony, instead choosing to honor the Nine in her own ways. You’ll find her brash, temperamental, and cynical, but also compassionate, loyal, and stalwart. Rin is not one to readily talk about herself, but you’ll learn more about her as you journey together.
Introductory Quest: Do Dead Gods Weep?
To begin your adventures with Rin, travel to the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood and accept Varres' request to escort his trading caravan to the remote village of Sacriel in Cyrodiil, which has recently been devastated by a plague.
I recommend recruiting Rin as soon as you begin a new game, being sure to avoid starting quests and clearing locations. Not doing so won’t break the mod, but it will cause you to miss content, and Rin may comment on events she wasn’t present for.
Reactivity and Immersion
I created Rin due to a problem I encountered after heavily modding Skyrim. Despite overhauling the combat, visuals, and countless other things, the actual content one plays through is still mostly the quests and locations present in the vanilla game. After experiencing these a dozen times each, they lose their novelty and make another playthrough, even heavily modded, less exciting.
To counter this, the primary goal for Rin as a follower is to provide commentary and interaction extensive enough that her presence transforms the player's experience of the base game content. To achieve this, Rin’s commentary and reactions broadly cover all aspects of the game, including:
-
[]Quest Commentary: Rin has extensive quest commentary. In some cases, she more than doubles the number of spoken lines associated with a quest. Rin’s commentary avoids merely summarising the events of the quest. She might discuss the ethics of your task, offer some obscure lore, bring up a past experience she was reminded of, or just break into a prejudiced rant about how she doesn’t trust the quest giver. The mod also features an alert system that displays a notification whenever Rin has something to discuss.[/]
[*]Location Commentary: Rin does not reuse any dialogue between dungeons/POIs. You’ll hear completely unique lines as you make your way through each. For example, Embershard Mine, the bandit-infested mine near Riverwood, has 8 unique lines of dialogue. Unma
Rin is a fully voiced Imperial follower mod for Skyrim, featuring a brash, cynical knight-errant with a custom introductory quest and extensive reactivity to the world. It aims to refresh vanilla content by adding a companion who comments on events and locations, with a warning about her insensitive remarks toward other races.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 423 endorsements and 9,505 downloads, showing solid traction.
- Fully voiced follower adds depth and immersion, a step up from silent companions.
- Custom quest and reactive dialogue aim to breathe new life into vanilla Skyrim content.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires starting a new game and avoiding quests to experience all content, which can be restrictive for existing playthroughs.
- The follower's insensitive remarks may be off-putting for some players, limiting who will enjoy her company.
- Potential compatibility issues with other mods that alter Riverwood or add followers, given the quest start location.
For Skyrim players who want a fully voiced, reactive companion with a strong personality and a custom quest to spice up a new playthrough. If you're easily offended by in-game racial insensitivity, you might want to skip. This is a content-focused mod, not a simple cosmetic follower.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Start a new game and recruit Rin early to avoid missing her reactive dialogue and quest content.
- Be aware of the content disclaimer: Rin's dialogue includes insensitive remarks, so if that's not your cup of tea, consider other followers.
- Since the quest starts in Riverwood, avoid mods that heavily alter that area to prevent conflicts.
