📋 About This Mod

Strange new contraptions called 'mirrors' have found their way to the Kingdom of Skyrim

Hail, travellers and fellow Nords, a curious new device has arrived at the shores of Skyrim. This novelty is called a ‘mirror’, and shows a perfect likeness of whoever stands before them. Raise your arm, turn your head or pull a face, and it follows your every movement, as if looking down a clear water well. Even the room behind you appears within it's polished glass. Come and see this guaranteed magic-free experience with your own eyes!

What the mod does

Realistic Reflections - Mirrors provides working, real-time mirrors that show your character and surroundings. Mirrors are added to inns and player homes by default.

It is possible to make your own mirrors by using the supplied Creation Kit material, or select a reflective pane for your NIF with the Mirror Creator.

Each visible mirror renders the scene from its own viewpoint, with configurable resolution and refresh settings to balance image quality and performance.

Finding mirrors

You can find regional varieties of mirrors in player homes and certain inns. You can turn mirror placement in the world on and off in MCM.

By default mirrors are added to Breezehome, Honeyside, Vlindrel Hall, Hjerim and Proudspire Manor with purchased furnishings. You can also find mirrors in the Bannered Mare, Sleeping Giant Inn, The Bee and Barb, The Winking Skeever, Candlehearth Hall and Silver-Blood Inn.

Settings and performance

Performance

The MCM menu lets you choose how mirrors balance image quality and performance:

  • []Automatic (default): starts at up to 2048/60 Hz, and dynamically adjusts image quality and update frequency based on the target game FPS you set (60 FPS by default)[/]

[]Preset: choose Low (1024/30 Hz, no shadows), Medium (2048/60 Hz), or High (4096, updated every frame).[/]

[]Manual: set the maximum reflection resolution, choose updates every frame or a refresh rate of 30–120 Hz, and adjust object visibility distance.[/]

Effective quality displays the reflection resolution and update rate currently in use. With ENB, reflection resolution follows the framebuffer, so manual and automatic resolution controls are unavailable.

Other MCM options include:

  • []Enable mirrors in player homes: places mirrors in purchased furnishings.[/]

[]Enable mirrors in inns: places mirrors in inn rooms.[/]

[]Development menu: enables the F8 performance panel, including benchmark and comparison controls.[/]

Make your own mirrors using CK or the Mirror Creator NIF tool

Authors can assign reflective surfaces using the Mirror Creator or Creation Kit.

    Creation Kit

Open Creation Kit and load RealisticReflectionsMirrors.esm, duplicate or create your object, and assign MOS_MirrorSurface from the Creator package in the Files section to a flat model part under Model Data → Alternate Textures. Place the object and save your plugin.

CK applies the texture set to the entire selected model part. Use the Mirror Creator when you need to select individual areas within a larger part.

Players using your mirror surface need to have Mirrors of Skyrim installed to be able to see it.

    Mirror Creator

The Mirror Creator is a small program that allows you to load a Skyrim NIF, select the surface you want to make reflective, and save the prepared mesh.

Hold Shift and select additional flat areas to combine them into one reflection. This supports broken mirrors with aligned shards: the reflection continues across the selected pieces while the gaps remains empty.

Combined areas must lie on the same plane. Pieces tilted at different angles require separate reflections.

The selector also displays the corresponding Creation Kit part name and 3D Index, helping you identify the correct model part in CK.

You can find the Mirror Creator as an optional download in the Files section.

    Compatibility

Supports SE and AE 1. 6. 1170+ including GOG. VR support is in the works and will be added in a later update.

This mod has been tested with Community Shaders with Upscaling and Frame Generation, ReShade and ENB. On ENB, capture resolution follows the framebuffer, and it is not possible to set an FPS target in automatic mode.

Inns and purchased player homes keep their mirrors when the vanilla room layout is still there. If a house or inn overhaul rebuilds that interior, this mod hides its mirror in that cell so the frame does not float in the new room. That includes Elianora's Breezehome, The Ravens Breezehome, Distinct Interiors' full Breezehome decorations, and the HS Player H
