Ordo Legionis (Flintlock Muskets of the Imperial Legion)

THE CONCEPT

It has been 200 years since the Oblivion Crisis. Time has marched on, inventions have occurred in Tamriel, none less important than the invention (or perhaps discovery) of black powder by the Redguards.

The Imperial Legion of Cyrodil have been quick to swoop down on this radical discovery and their skilled weapon designers and smiths have invented the amazing replacement to the common medieval bow, namely "The Musket".

Seasoned Imperial troopers, Imperial Legionaires, and Penitus Oculatis members have all been trusted to use these weapons to gain a tactical advantage over the Aldmeri Dominium.

Now some of these weapons have been smuggled into Skyrim by the Thieves Guild or some other secretive faction, and the secret of their smithing may be learned by an experienced smith, who understands the Dwemer techniques.

Why rely on an ancient bow, when you can destroy your enemies from afar using these amazing "muskets", "fuciles", "calivers", "arquebusses", "gewehrs" and "raifurus"?

Guns, including cannons, are mentioned in the Elder Scrolls lore, including Redguard exploding black powder, cannons mentioned in a Daggerfall joke book, fireworks from Akavir, Redguard's cut cannons (source Michael Kirkbride), and also the exploding Dwemer crossbow bolts in Skyrim.

It does not seem lore-breaking to introduce a black powder musket weapon to such a world, given the existing lore.

WHAT THE MOD DOES

The mod adds several flintlock, matchlock and wheellock style musket rifles to the world. There are several different models, including blunderbusses.

Muskets can be crafted at the forge if you have a high enough craftings kill, and the dwarven smithing perk (these are sophisticated weapons after all, and that fellow in Riverwood is unlikely to be able to teach you this level of skill).

Damage scales with archery ability for obvious reasons.

WHERE TO FIND THE WEAPONS

The basic mod just adds the ability to craft these muskets and the accompanying ammunition.

For a more immersive experience, also use the optional "overhaul" mod, which adds the weapons to Imperial Legionnaires, soldiers and Penitus Oculatus officers. Stormcloak rebels can likely loot the bodies of their fallen enemies, while Imperialists will have to manufacture their own muskets.

The mod is really meant to be played alongside "Pistols (for travel in hostile environments)" especially if you choose the version that adds flintlock pistols to several groups in the game, including the Thalmor Justicars you encounter on the roads of Skyrim.
