📋 About This Mod
This mod adds shoes to the default sailor's outfit. The outfit is only used by sailors, not beggars, so it won't affect anyone who should be barefoot.
FAQ:
Q: ESPFE?
A: Yes, if using the ESP download. There is no ESP if using the SkyPatcher version.
Q: But didn't sailors actually go barefoot? Does this break immersion?
A: It's true that leather will rot when constantly exposed to water, so sailors often went barefoot in wet and rainy conditions. But if they could afford them, sailors normally wore shoes when they could, and certainly when they were on land. For more info see this and this. Also, it looks very UNIMMERSIVE to see a sailor wearing a full set of clothes with a cloak and hood, but having bare feet (see screenshots).
Q: Which sailors does this actually affect?
A: Sailors are spawned in the vanilla game as well as by many mods; for example: The Island, Midwood Isle, Immersive World Encounters, Save The Icerunner, and Cow's Simple Solitude Docks.
Q: Compatible with NPC overhauls?
A: Should be compatible with everything, as long as it doesn't change the one single outfit record I changed (see screenshot). This mod does not affect any facegen data, so it will NOT cause dark face issues.
Q: I installed this but the sailors are still barefoot.
A: If an NPC has already been spawned into your game, they may keep the original outfit they had when first spawned. To force them to use the new outfit, you can use "resetinventory" on them in the console.
No More Barefoot Sailors adds shoes to the default sailor's outfit in Skyrim, affecting only sailors and not beggars. It offers both an ESPFE and a SkyPatcher version, and is compatible with most mods since it only changes one outfit record. Ideal for players who find barefoot sailors immersion-breaking.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Lightweight fix with 70 endorsements and 7,472 downloads, showing solid community support.
- ESPFE option keeps your load order clean, and SkyPatcher version has no ESP at all.
- No dark face issues since it doesn't touch facegen data—safe for NPC overhaul users.
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects the default sailor outfit, so custom sailor outfits from other mods won't get shoes.
- Already-spawned NPCs keep their original outfit until you manually reset them via console.
- Compatibility risk if another mod edits the same outfit record—check for conflicts.
For Skyrim players who notice barefoot sailors and find it breaks immersion, especially if you use mods that add more sailors. Also great for modders who want a simple, safe outfit tweak. Skip if you don't care about sailor footwear or use a total overhaul that replaces sailor outfits entirely.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you're using the SkyPatcher version, make sure you have SkyPatcher installed and load it after this mod.
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2 to install and easily switch between ESPFE and SkyPatcher versions.
- If sailors are still barefoot after installing, open the console, click on the NPC, and type 'resetinventory' to force the new outfit.
