📋 About This Mod
Physical weapon hits by the player (either on power attacks or critical hits) cause a circular refraction effect, intended to make combat feel more impactful.
Special thanks to ap05, who created the original mesh for Separated Slash Effects X - MIF and helped me in modifying it. That also means that, just like the original mod, this requires MIF - Mu Impact Framework to be displayed.
Due to my own limited skill in NifSkope, there are some limitations here. The effects are a fixed size and look a bit weird when seen from too far away, so it is recommended to play with the camera pretty close to the player. The refraction itself looks a bit jagged because it was not intended to be scaled up so much. Basically, I recommend you to just try it out and disable it again if you don't like it.
Update
Version 2. 0 was just released, I experimented with the mesh and think it looks much smoother now.
Modern Hit Effect - Refraction is a visual mod for Skyrim that adds a circular refraction effect to physical weapon hits on power attacks or critical hits, making combat feel more impactful. It requires MIF - Mu Impact Framework and is best experienced with the camera close to the player. Version 2.0 improves mesh smoothness.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Makes combat feel more impactful with a visual punch on critical hits.
- Active development—version 2.0 just dropped with smoother effects.
- Decent community traction (124 endorsements, 7,861 downloads).
⚠️ Cons
- Effects are fixed size and look weird from far away, so you're locked to close camera.
- Refraction can look jagged, especially before v2.0, and author admits scaling issues.
- Requires MIF framework, so it won't work standalone and adds a dependency.
For Skyrim players who want a flashy, anime-style hit effect to spice up melee combat. If you're a screenshot enthusiast or love dramatic slow-mo kills, this is for you. Skip if you prefer realistic combat visuals or play with a zoomed-out camera.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure MIF - Mu Impact Framework is installed first, or the effect won't show up.
- Test the mod with a power attack on a training dummy to see the effect up close.
- If the effect looks too jagged, update to v2.0 for the smoother mesh.
