📋 About This Mod
Similar to my other mod, Scrolls are Common, but for tomes. By default, enemy mages have a small chance (15%) to have 1-3 spell tomes in their inventory, to aid your mageling journey. You can edit the spid file to make that chance higher or smaller or change the amounts dropped. with new implementation you aren't going to see them all the time even at 15% chance. You'll probably get a bunch of tomes by fighting necromancer holds though :)
Tomes are distributed via a level list with levelled distribution:
Novice Tomes: Lvl 1 and up
Apprentice Tomes: lvl 5 and up
Adept Tomes: lvl 15 and up
Expert Tomes: lvl 25 and up
Master Tomes: Lvl 50 and up
If you want to change chance to be higher you can just edit the ini files.
Currently Covered:
Base game + DLCs
If you have any mods you would like to be added, just ask.
There is an alternate version in the optional files that uses leveled list object swapper to merge all lists but i had issues with it so i reverted back to spid. The issues were things like master spells being distributed at level 1 etc. it wasnt working with sublists the way it should. if LLOS updates to work better with sublists then i will use it again but for now SPID is more reliable.

Mages Drop Tomes (SPID) is a lightweight immersion mod for Skyrim that gives enemy mages a small chance to drop spell tomes when defeated. With 402 endorsements and recent updates, it's a simple, community-tested addition for players who want more rewarding mage battles.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 402 endorsements and over 31k downloads, so it's proven to work for many players.
- Simple and lightweight – no heavy scripts or performance hit, just a neat drop chance.
- Fits the immersion category perfectly – makes mage fights feel more rewarding without breaking balance.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires SPID (Spell Perk Item Distributor) as a dependency, so you need to install that first.
- The drop chance is small, so you might not see tomes often – could feel underwhelming if you're expecting frequent loot.
- Potential compatibility risk with other mods that alter mage loot tables or use SPID heavily, though SPID is designed to minimize conflicts.
For Skyrim players who want a subtle immersion boost – making mage enemies drop their spell tomes occasionally. It's perfect for loot enthusiasts who enjoy collecting spells without grinding. Skip if you prefer guaranteed drops or don't want to add another dependency.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have SPID installed and up to date – this mod relies on it to work.
- If you're using a mod manager, just download and activate – no need for manual file placement.
- Check your load order to ensure SPID loads before this mod, though SPID usually handles distribution dynamically.
