📋 About This Mod

REQUIREMENTS:

Bug Fixes SSE

Address Library for SKSE Plugins

INSTALLATION:

Just install with MO2.

COMPATIBILITY:

Should be compatible with most things, RWT included. As long as the water source is checked by Actor::Update::GetSubmergedLevel() everything should be fine.

TDG's Wade In Water does the same thing my mod does except through papyrus scripts so only use either mine or their's.

NOT COMPATIBLE with my Sink Or Swim mod due to it doing similar things this one does. You may also enjoy this one, though.

Mod-Added actors will also work with this.

This mod is also script-free, the only thing the .esp contains is 3 Spells and 1 MGEF. It is safe to install and uninstall mid-playthrough, tho do make sure that nobody is in water when you do.

A relatively simple SKSE plugin to make Actors (NPCs and yourself) slow down upon entering water. Inspired by games like Dark Souls 1, 2, 3, The Witcher 3, and really any game that has water..... But the main inspiration was TDG for making the original Wade in Water mod that made me want to improve it.

The way this whole thing works is that it hooks Actor::Update::GetSubmergedLevel(), and checks the incoming actor's submerged level. It applies one of 3 spells of which have different magnitude depending on how deep you are in water. 0 is Not in water at all, 1. 00 is full submerged. The small slow down begins at 0. 20, about upper shin level in order to avoid waterwalking issues and ankle-keep water getting in the way. The big slow down begins at 0. 40, at waist level. Swimming begins at 0. 69 which is (hilariously) the minimum value needed to enter the swimming animation. You can see all of this in-game in the video below.

The main advantage over my mod vs. TDG's is that mine affects all actors, NPCs included, as well not suffering from awful papyrus performance. 0 "script lag" so the slow down and speed up happens on time, every time.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Loki's Wade In Water is an SKSE plugin for Skyrim that makes water slow down actors (NPCs and the player) based on how much of their body is submerged. It adds realistic movement penalties when wading through water, enhancing immersion. With over 10,000 endorsements and 3.9 million downloads, it's a popular immersion mod, though it hasn't been updated since 2020.

✨ Key Features

Slows down actors (NPCs and the player) when in water, with the slowdown proportional to how much of the actor is submerged.
Requires SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender) to function.
Highly endorsed with 10,622 endorsements and 3.9 million downloads.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Huge community trust: 10,622 endorsements and 3.9 million downloads show this mod is a staple for immersion lovers.
  • Simple but effective: adds realistic water physics without overhauling the whole game.
  • Works for both NPCs and the player, so the world feels consistent.

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in November 2020 — might be outdated for the latest Skyrim versions, so check compatibility.
  • Requires SKSE, which adds an extra setup step for modding beginners.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who want more realistic water movement without a full overhaul. If you're into immersion mods and don't mind installing SKSE, this is a must-have. Skip if you prefer fast-paced gameplay or don't want to deal with script extender dependencies.
📦 Install:Medium· 5-10 minutes

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you have SKSE installed and launch the game through SKSE's loader, not the default launcher, or the mod won't work.
  • If you're using a mod manager like Vortex or Mod Organizer 2, install the mod through it to keep your load order clean.
  • Check the mod's compatibility with your Skyrim version (Special Edition or Anniversary Edition) before installing, as the 2020 update may not support the latest patches.
