📋 About This Mod
What does this do?
This plugin does nothing except log a whole bunch of information related to the loading of Elder Scrolls plugins (.esp, .esl, .esm).
Specifically, the following information is logged:
-
[]The plugin list provided by your mod manager, both before and after data loading
[
]The plugins actually loaded by the game - The plugin files in your data directory
In addition, it compares the two plugin list scans and checks whether the ReadPluginList function has been patched by another plugin.
The log file is located under Documents/My Games/Skyrim Special Edition/SKSE/LoadOrderTest.log.
Who is this for?
This mod isn't really meant for the average user, but for mod authors to direct users to to gather diagnostics information when they have issues with missing forms in their mod. I maintain QuickLoot IE and commonly see people who get a specific error. Referring them to this page is easier than hotlinking the troubleshooting dll every time.
The purpose of the log is to determine where things go wrong when plugins don't load properly. Are they missing entirely? Are they disabled in the mod manager? Is something interfering with the loading process? Or does the game fail to access forms within a loaded plugin? The tool logs the plugins on disk, the plugins supposed to load and the plugins actually loaded. Comparing these three lists can give an indication as to where in the chain things went wrong.

The plugin uses alandtse's CommonLibNG and qudix' xmake template.
The source code is available on GitHub.
LoadOrderTest is a diagnostic SKSE plugin for Skyrim Special Edition that logs detailed plugin loading information to help mod authors troubleshoot missing form errors. It records the plugin list from your mod manager, the plugins actually loaded by the game, and the plugin files in your data directory, then compares these lists to identify where loading breaks. This tool is intended for mod authors to direct users to for gathering diagnostics, not for average players.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Purpose-built for diagnosing missing form errors, a common pain point for mod authors
- Logs three distinct plugin lists, making it easy to pinpoint where loading fails
- Actively maintained by the author of QuickLoot IE, a known modder (last updated July 2025)
⚠️ Cons
- Not for average users—it's a diagnostic tool, so it won't improve gameplay
- Requires SKSE and CommonLibNG, so it's only useful if you're already set up for mod development
- Small user base (39 endorsements) means limited community feedback, though it's a niche utility
For Skyrim mod authors who need to troubleshoot why plugins aren't loading properly, especially when users report missing forms. It's also handy for tech-savvy users who want to verify their load order is being applied correctly. Skip this if you're a casual player looking for gameplay or visual enhancements—this is purely a debugging tool.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have SKSE installed and running—this plugin won't work without it.
- After installing, launch the game and then check the log file at Documents/My Games/Skyrim Special Edition/SKSE/LoadOrderTest.log to see the diagnostic output.
- If you're a mod author, direct users to install this and send you the log file—it'll save you time troubleshooting missing form issues.
