The commotion in the reindeer stable had woken him up in the morning and as he lay in through the open stable door, he had stumbled over Nellie and only his Christmas-like fat belly had saved him from worse when he fell. Nellie had disappeared since then and the big search operation, which he initiated immediately after she had run away, remained unsuccessful.

What had happened? Against his prohibition to feed the reindeer with sweets before Christmas Eve, Nellie had gone to them with some candy canes. But Nellie, standing in front of the excited reindeer, decided to eat the candy canes herself, which particularly angered Rudolph, who made his anger known loudly. This in turn incited Nellie's mischievous side and she irrigated him with an icy shower on his nose, which was subsequently even redder. Rudolph, for his part, became so angry that he kicked at her and Nellie shot him in the butt with one of her infamous ice spears in return.

Well, to cut a long story short, he had calmed down the angry reindeer gang with difficulty and Nellie was gone.
