Most Esteemed Traveler Across the Northern Lands,

I hope this missive finds you well. Though we have not met, I feel a kinship with you as I also have been called to travel the northern roads. The caravan I am using to cover my presence in Skyrim is at Whiterun for another night, so I leave this letter with Hulda of the Bannered Mare with the expectation that it will find you promptly.

My business with you is simple. I represent an academic society whose name is assuredly unknown to you. I will not be offended by your ignorance of our group, as we have not had a presence in these cold lands for many centuries. That is about to change.

Our scholars in Skyrim have unearthed an ancient barrow, the tomb of some prince or king whose name has long-faded into the mists of time. We wish to resurrect the memory of this lonely monarch; however, we are prevented from progressing into the tomb by the sentinels who guard it.

Your reputation is unparalleled. Many have heard of your deeds and spoken of your cunning. As such, we are happy to extend a business proposition to you. Clear the tomb of these profane beasts. In payment, you may spirit away as much treasure as your arms can bear.

Our discovery was made in a forgotten passageway of a mine near Markarth; the local residents call it Soljund's Sinkhole. Enter the mine, and near the entrance you will see a yellow banner at the excavated passageway; this will lead you to the tomb below. The only name we have for the place was inscribed on a stone block near the entrance - Kyrjold.

It is not necessary to reply to this letter; my expectation is that you will accept our offer, but the moons light different paths for each of us. Do as you will.
