📋 About This Mod
A lightweight SKSE combat-morale mod where humanoid enemies lose morale as casualties mount, rally around an engaged Boss, and break when that Boss falls. Routed enemies may fight back if attacked, while vanilla followers stop hunting
KILL THE BOSS. BREAK THE FIGHT.

SKYRIM HAS A MORALE PROBLEM
Specifically, it doesn't have one.
Half your friends dead?
Keep swinging.
Leader just got decapitated?
Charge.
Everyone else dead?
Apparently you are the hero now.
KNOW WHEN YOU’RE BEATEN ADDS MORALE.
Casualties matter.
Leadership matters.
Boss death matters.
And eventually, even Skyrim bandits may conclude that this has become a bad day.
KWYB decides morale. Skyrim performs morale.
CASUALTIES MATTER
The fight can break before the Boss does.
As losses mount, morale erodes.
Some enemies hold.
Some hesitate.
Some require additional data.
Not everyone breaks at the same time.
Timid enemies may go first.
Harder enemies may hold much longer.
And some will watch the entire operation collapse around them and decide the answer is apparently:
"More sword."
FRESH ENEMIES ARE ACTUALLY FRESH
The people in the next room did not attend the first massacre.
Kill three enemies in one room and move deeper?
The next group does not inherit morale damage from casualties they were never part of.
They enter fresh.
Meanwhile, survivors from the earlier fight remember what happened.
Fresh fighters start fresh.
Survivors keep their scars.
THEN THE BOSS SHOWS UP
Leadership matters.
A Boss does not help merely by existing somewhere in the dungeon.
The Boss has to join the fight.
Once engaged, leadership can steady a collapsing group and give shaken survivors a reason to get back into combat.
The Boss is no longer just the biggest health bar in the room.
THE BOSS IS PART OF THE MORALE EQUATION.
KILL THE BOSS. BREAK THE FIGHT.
Management has left the building.
Kill an engaged Boss and the group loses its leadership.
Then the Boss's death adds another psychological blow.
For a force already hanging on by spite, poor judgment, and low standards of employment, that can be enough.
Some may break.
Some may flee.
Some may cower.
Some may keep fighting because Skyrim has opinions.
There is no scripted:
"Boss dead. Everyone run."
KWYB changes morale.
Skyrim handles the rest.
BROKEN DOES NOT MEAN HELPLESS
Running away was their peace offering.
A routed enemy is trying to survive.
Let them go and they may stay out of the fight.
Hunt them down?
Attack them?
Start attacking their nearby friends?
They may decide:
"Fine. Then we die fighting."
Some recover.
Some do not.
Morale has depth.
A fighter who has only just broken is not in the same state as someone who has watched his entire organization become dungeon clutter.
They didn't forget how sword works.
They may simply decide to demonstrate that fact.
FOLLOWERS AND THE FINE ART OF NOT COMMITTING WAR CRIMES
Someone finally explained what "fleeing" means.
Vanilla followers now recognize when a KWYB enemy has broken.
If an enemy is still fighting, your follower fights normally.
If that enemy is routed and fleeing or cowering, a vanilla player teammate will stop treating them as a valid target instead of chasing them across the dungeon for the coup de grâce.
This was physically tested with Skyrim's own effervescent Lydia ❤️❤️❤️ — who is, after all, sworn to carry our burdens.
Once only routed enemies remain, L
