📋 About This Mod
Kickin Ash a Solsheim ash storm texture replacer
___________________________________________________
Reason for this mod:
______________________
I saw something similar implemented for Nat 3 weather plug in but did not want to leave my current weather mod. I only wanted the ashes that appeared to still be hot/ burning.
So I extracted the fxashsoft01.dds from the Dragonborn.bsa and modified it to come up with this.
What does this mod do?:
____________________________
It adds one loose texture file that the game will use instead of the one in the vanilla .bsa archive that enhances the look of the falling ash in Solsheim.
Installation:
_____________
It is literally a single loose texture that the game will use instead of the vanilla one in the .bsa file. install with mod manager or manually
Safe to install or uninstall any time.
Compatibility:
_______________
Should work with ANY weather mod, or basically anything else.
Permission:
______________
Open. Do whatever you want with it. No permissions required.

With 116 endorsements and 7,859 downloads, it's a simple, compatible mod that works with any weather setup.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Does exactly what it says: makes ash look ember-like without changing your weather mod.
- Tiny footprint—one texture file, no scripts or plugins, so it's basically zero risk.
- Community-approved with 116 endorsements and nearly 8k downloads.
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects the ash texture—if you wanted more dramatic ash storms, this won't add that.
- Visual change is subtle; you might not notice it unless you're looking for it.
- Compatibility is broad, but any mod that also replaces fxashsoft01.dds will conflict—check your load order.
For Skyrim players who use a weather mod like NAT or Obsidian but miss the burning ash effect from other replacers. It's perfect if you want a quick, lightweight tweak to Solstheim's atmosphere without overhauling your setup. Skip if you're looking for major visual changes or new weather effects—this is purely a texture swap.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a loose texture, make sure it's placed after any mod that might also modify ash textures in your mod manager's load order.
- If you're on PC, you can manually drop the file into your Data folder—no need for a mod manager, but using one makes uninstalling easier.
- Test it in Solstheim during an ash storm to see the effect; it's most noticeable when ash is falling heavily.
