📋 About This Mod

Inverse Kinematics - Feet of Skyrim

Description

Skyrim's built-in foot IK only plants the ankle. On slopes and stairs your heel finds the ground while the front of the foot floats through the air (or clips into it), and the engine simply switches foot IK off in most scenarios anyway.

This mod ships two solvers and lets you pick in-game:

Feet of Skyrim solver (default, experimental) - written from scratch foot IK solver:

  • []Feet track the ground with smooth, tunable response - no snapping on stairs by design[/]

[]Toes pitch to match slopes and stair edges, so the whole foot plants, not just the heel[/]

[]The body lowers when a foot reaches for ground below, instead of the leg hyper extending[/]

[]Corrections fade out as a foot lifts, so walk and run animations stay untouched[/]

[]Response times are tunable in-game (foot lower/raise, body settle, step change hold)[/]

Vanilla engine (optional) - keeps Skyrim's built in Havok foot IK, upgraded:

  • []Whole-foot planting - every foot IK leg gets a proper toe target instead of ankle-only planting[/]

[]Force foot IK on - the engine checks that disable foot IK on stairs and while moving are configurable[/]

[]Step softening - IK briefly pauses while a foot crosses a step edge so it can't pop, plus an optional ankle range clamp[/]

[]Adaptive gains (experimental) - foot IK responds faster on steep ground, per actor, per frame[/]

Both solvers get:

  • []Dynamic toe detection - toe positions are computed from the actor's skinned mesh at runtime: it finds the vertices skinned to each foot, locates the sole under the toes, and converts them into the ankle's space. Works for any humanoid or creature, respects boots (boot soles extend the reach), needs zero configuration. JSON configs are supported as manual overrides.[/]

[]Smart suppression - foot IK automatically turns off while swimming, sitting/sleeping, riding, during killmoves/paired animations, and while ragdolled (each toggleable), with an optional distance cutoff for far-away NPCs. OStim NG scenes are handled via its API: foot IK off at scene start, restored at scene end.[/]

[]Foot IK for creatures that never had it (experimental) - every Skyrim character has a dormant foot IK driver; only the leg data is missing. This mod can create that data at runtime from the creature's skeleton and mesh, giving foot IK to NPCs Bethesda never enabled it for.[/]

[]Live in-game menu - everything is configurable through FLICK, and options that don't apply to the active solver grey themselves out.[/]

Requirements

[]Skyrim Special Edition 1. 5. 97 or 1. 6.x[/]

✨ Key Features

Enables inverse kinematics in places where it is normally disabled.
Enhances the base game's IK by dynamically extending it based on the size of the skinned mesh.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community-tested with 390 endorsements and over 10,000 downloads.
  • Targets a specific immersion gap—foot placement—that many players notice.
  • Active development (last updated July 2026) suggests ongoing support.

⚠️ Cons

  • Requires SKSE, which adds a dependency and setup step for modding newcomers.
  • Niche focus on feet IK may not be noticeable for players who don't pay close attention to animations.
  • Potential compatibility issues with other animation or skeleton mods that alter IK behavior.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who are bothered by floating or sliding feet during animations and want more realistic foot placement. It's also for modders who want to push the game's animation system further. Skip if you're not into subtle immersion tweaks or don't want to deal with SKSE dependencies.
📦 Install:Medium· 5-10 minutes

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Install SKSE first and launch the game through skse64_loader.exe to ensure the plugin loads correctly.
  • Use a mod manager like MO2 or Vortex to keep track of the plugin and its dependencies.
  • Check your load order to ensure no other mods overwrite the IK settings; place this mod after animation overhauls.
