📋 About This Mod
Installation: If you want parallax install the complex materials meshes and then optionally run ParallaxGen. The large stonewalls are already enabled for complex parallax, the other shapes are not to maintain the best compatibility with other mods. ParallaxGen will detect these conflicts in your load order and automatically handle them. These already contain relevant Lux mesh splits so load them after Lux if you use it.
For textures, Install main file then install updates after, you can merge with main file if you want, I usually dont cause I like to keep track of what I have installed but to each his own.

Illustrious Whiterun SE is a visual overhaul for Whiterun in Skyrim Special Edition, offering 8K, 4K, and 2K texture options with complex materials and parallax support. It's a work in progress, but already popular with over 5,800 endorsements and 4.6 million downloads. Ideal for players seeking high-fidelity city textures.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Massive community approval (5,872 endorsements) — this is a go-to for Whiterun overhauls
- 4.6 million downloads prove it's battle-tested across many setups
- Multiple resolution options (8K/4K/2K) let you balance visuals and performance
⚠️ Cons
- Author admits it's still a work in progress, so you might see incomplete areas
- 8K version will hammer your VRAM — not for low-end rigs
- Requires complex materials and parallax support in your ENB or setup to get full effect
For Skyrim players who want Whiterun to look stunning in screenshots and gameplay, especially those with high-end PCs who can handle 8K textures. If you're on a mid-range rig, the 2K version is still a solid upgrade. Skip if you prefer vanilla aesthetics or don't want to fiddle with ENB settings.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, install the 2K version first to test performance before trying 4K or 8K.
- Make sure your ENB supports complex materials and parallax — otherwise, the mod won't look as intended.
- Place this mod after other texture overhauls in your load order to ensure it takes priority.
