📋 About This Mod
About this mod
Icy Cave Remaster is a mod that overhauls icy parts of the skyrim's caves.
I was never satisfied with ice caves so I built this mod to fit my own icy vision for the ice caves.
Although the original vision was just making some textures, it's been growing into a rather complicated mod that has numerous types of ice and even some themes for some interior locations.
Features
Fantasy ice textures
My aim for ice appearence was purely to fit skyrim's aesthetics. Some locations having a dark earthy appearence, others really cold and frozen feel, and of course very refractive locations.
Individualized ice caves (WIP)
As my mod expands, I've began to heavily utilize BOS which allows me to essentially customize interiors whatever way I want without needing to worry what ice might look elsewhere. The way the mod originally was made is by simply adding textures even though they didn't entirely fit with each other. So customizing each cave and giving it their own theme is one of the biggest features of this mod.
Currently this is still heavily WIP and there are MANY cave locations that are slowly being worked on and fixed up to look properly.
Some of these locations can be seen in the images tab.
If you ever really explore your surroundings, many caves will have various floating meshes or holes in walls/ceilings. So I've been fixing these issues up.
Cave fixes are now separated into it's own dedicated mod called Skyrim Cave Fixes. As it will be developed beyond just ice caves during it's development. I also didn't want to lock these fixes with this mod so that anyone can use them to improve the immersion improvements to their game.
Here's a few examples of what these fixes look like with ICR:
Duplicate mesh overlapping which results in z-fighting
Ceiling missing around the edges of the room
A literal hole in the ground
The mesh is not covered which reveals the empty underside of the mesh.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Huge download count (1.7M) shows it's a go-to for many players
- Endorsement ratio is solid (2,925) — people actually like it
- Last updated June 2026, so it's fresh and likely compatible with current setups
⚠️ Cons
- Only covers icy parts of ice caves, so if you want a full cave overhaul, this might not be enough
For Skyrim players who want to spruce up the frozen caves without overhauling the whole game. If you're into visual overhauls and spend time in icy dungeons, this is a quick win. Skip if you're looking for gameplay changes or a complete cave texture pack.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, just download and install — it's a simple texture/model replacer.
- Check your load order: put this after other texture mods to ensure it takes priority.
- Since it's a visual mod, you can safely add or remove it mid-playthrough, but a quick save before installing is a good habit.
