HDT-SMP Hair and Wigs Unisex - Misc Improvements

Description

In the original HDT-SMP Hair and Wigs Unisex mod by cornflakes1023, men could use all of the hairstyles included, but only a handful of them had been adjusted to fit the male head shape. The rest had significant clipping problems, and most weren't usable for male characters. The biggest thing I've done here is add custom male meshes (and separate ones for male elves, who have a different head shape) for every hairstyle in the mod. Each one morphs with the character's weight, so that's four new meshes for every hairstyle (hence the large file size). I've also done some touch-ups on the original female meshes, resolved some inconsistencies, edited the physics of many hairstyles, added Racemenu tags, and added updated collision bodies that are shared between hairstyles, but not shared between genders. I've also added one bonus hairstyle called Shieldbrother, which is a less feminine version of the already existing Shieldmaiden hairstyle.

Here's an overview of all the changes:

  []Many SMP xmls have been tweaked so the hair physics behaves more naturally. They aren't all perfect, but many look a bit better.[/]

  []A few hairstyles were only fitted properly for men. These have been refitted so they look better on women now (Heartquake looks much better on women now, for example).[/]

  []New Shieldbrother hairstyle and wig made by nifbashing Shieldmaiden and Focus together.[/]

  []The No Frauds hairstyle previously had a bone weight problem resulting in severe stretching. This has been fixed.[/]

  []For many wigs, the hairline (the part that covers the scalp) wasn't visible because of the equipment slot assigned in the nif. This has been fixed.[/]

  []The Bannered Mare is no longer renamed to "Bannered Mare"[/]

  []Many hairstyles loaded the wig alongside the hair to grab the SMP xml, but the wig didn't render because of the way it was set up. This has been fixed so the game doesn't also load the wig without rendering it.[/]

  []There were over 100 unused bone nodes in each mesh and these have been removed.  This may improve performance slightly, but it might not. I was releasing updated meshes anyway, so it made sense to clean them up.[/]

  Installation instructions

  Install with your preferred mod manager.

  If updating from the original mod, it's best to make sure your character doesn't have one of these hairstyles applied already. If they do, you should open racemenu, switch to a vanilla hairstyle, save and quit, then install this mod. You can apply the hairstyle again when you load the game back up. Equipped wigs are fine.

  The hairstyles in this mod collide with invisible collision meshes that are shaped like the character's body, and the FOMOD installer lets you choose the Male and Female bodies you use to ensure that the invisible collision mesh is the same shape as what you see on screen. Otherwise, the hair will float too high off the body, clip through it, or both.

  The mod comes with vanilla-friendly collision meshes, which will also work just fine with SOS and TNG, as these bodies are both vanilla-shaped. If you use the CBBE/3BA, BHUNP, UBE, or HIMBO bodies, you can also build your own collision meshes in BodySlide. Look for the "Xing HDT-SMP Hair Collisions" groups in BodySlide. There are options to build a nude or an outfit version:

  • []Nude Version: Follows body contours closely and is best when naked or wearing skintight clothing.[/]

    []Outfit Version: Smoother contours with an extra cushion to reduce clipping with armour and clothing.[/]

  Build either the Nude or Outfit version, whichever one suits you. There's no need to build both, and since they share a destination, whichever you build last will win out anyway (UBE is handled separately, see below). No collision mesh will look perfect with all outfits, but I've aimed for the outfit version to look decent with most outfits.

  One important limitation applies to racemenu (non-wig) hair specifically: the col
