"Materialized from obscure childhood fears, what could be more frightening than a profound trauma turned into a solid, horrifying infant deformed form of flesh and blood, which returns from the past lost in time to torment those who tried to forget it at all costs?  Known as Living Nightmares, the type of family to which the Grey Children belong is a group of incorporeal daedras that originate in the realms of Vaermina, the Daedric Prince of nightmares, and that feed on the bad feelings of mortal beings. While some focus on sexual vampirism, or are linked to specific addictions, most of these daedras feed on fear, guilt, regret, self-punishment, and take terrifying forms that amplify those feelings on their victims. The Grey Children specifically, torment those who harbor deep traumas linked to childhood, such as bullying, exclusion, insecurity, even representing mental/physical abuse, often even sexual.

When a sentient being thinks or feels, he unconsciously creates thought-forms, generated from his own mental and soul energy. Usually these forms are just floating ethereal masses, not visible to the naked eye, that orbit around their creators, and that dissipate as those whoever created them ceases to think or feel about the matter that lead to their creation. Some more intense forms exist for longer periods, and can even generate dreams, or especially nightmares, to their creators. When these long-lasting thoughts and feelings, which usually turn into deep fears, or overwhelming traumas, become obsessive, the thought-forms also become dense and catchable to the point of being detected by the Living Nightmares, who, by merging with them,
