📋 About This Mod
This is the Skyrim version of my Fallout 4 mod and updates the decompression libraries that Skyrim uses to more modern, optimised versions:
-
[]Zlib > Zlib-NG + Libdeflate[/]
[]LZ4 > LZ4 1. 10[/]
Just install and enable with your favorite mod manager and you should be good to go.
For the ini file:
bEnableLogging: if the mod will create a log file in Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition (or Skyrim VR)\F4SE. This is turned off by default, if you want to see information and stats about what the mod does you can turn this on by opening fastdecompress.ini and change bEnableLogging=1
bBaselineMode: This turns off the mod except for the logging part. if you want to see the difference between using the normal game decompression and the new one of this mod, you can set bBaselineMode=1 in fastdecompress.ini which makes the mod only capture data throughput in the log, without replacing the decompression libraries.
bLazyZlibInit: This is a diagnostic setting that turns off lazy Zlib Initialisation that got introduced in 1. 4. There's no need to change this normally.

✅ Pros

- One plugin covers SE, AE, and VR, so no need for version-specific patches
- Direct performance improvement to loading times without touching visuals or gameplay
⚠️ Cons
- Potential compatibility risk with other mods that alter the same decompression libraries
- Performance gains may vary depending on your system and mod load order
- No detailed documentation on exactly which libraries are replaced, so troubleshooting could be tricky
For Skyrim players on SE, AE, or VR who want faster loading screens without changing gameplay or visuals. If you're on an older version or use mods that heavily modify game files, you might want to test carefully.
