📋 About This Mod

This mod reduces forced quest pacing in and around various cities while preserving vanilla quest stages and scenes. Lightweight and lore-friendly. Talk to each of them when you're ready; their dialogue is unchanged and will proceed like normal. Each module is ESL-flagged and will not take up a slot in your load order. If you're not on the latest version of Skyrim you will need... THE BEES.

RIFTEN

Brynjolf and Maul no longer forcegreet you. No more escape and evasion tactics needed upon briefly entering Riften to assassinate Grelod do a little sightseeing! There are other mods that settle Brynjolf down, but I'm not aware of one that also covers Maul.

Disables Esbern forcegreeting you before you're hardly even in the door of his place in the Ratway.

Disables Karliah forcegreeting you the second you wake up outside Snow Veil Sanctum. Let me stand up and get out of forced first person, woman!

MARKARTH

Disables Eltrys and Vigilant Tyranus in Markarth from forcegreeting you and railroading you into the Forsworn Conspiracy and House of Horrors before you're ready. They each have new AI Packages to wait outside the Silver-Blood Inn and the Abandoned House, respectively. Simply speak to them when you're ready to hear their normal blocking topics and start their quests. Because of how Eltrys was set up by Bethesda, any visual replacers for him will need a patch. Tyranus, conversely, is fine, and I have a compatibility version for jayserpa's House of Horrors Quest Expansion mod under optional files.

WHITERUN

Adds an immersive pause between informing Balgruuf about Helgen and being sent to Bleak Falls Barrow while preserving the vanilla quest scenes and stages. Reduces the distance for Irileth's forcegreet. I've never liked the rapid pacing of the main quest, particularly how Farengar is already deep into researching dragons (with up front research by Delphine, too) when you are supposedly the first person to arrive with word of what happened at Helgen mere hours before.

[]Shrinks the trigger box in Dragonsreach for Irileth's forcegreet. She will not confront you until you are much closer to the throne.

[]Immersively pauses quest progression between Before the Storm (MQ102) and Bleak Falls Barrow (MQ103) after you tell Jarl Balgruuf about the attack on Helgen.

[]Balgruuf will thank you and send you on your way, and you'll have a journal entry for Bleak Falls Barrow suggesting the Jarl might have need of you later. This is your roleplay cue to imagine whatever reason and timing you like to get the Dragonstone.

[]Don't pick up the Dragonstone before being sent there by Fargenar.

[*]Jarl Balgruuf then has a new dialogue option, "About the dragons..." that you can select at the time of your choosing to c

  • Simple concept that directly improves player agency.

⚠️ Cons

  • May not be compatible with mods that alter NPC dialogue or quest triggers.
  • Could potentially break quests that rely on forcegreets to start.

🎯 Is This For You?
For players who hate being yanked into quests by NPCs and want to explore at their own pace. If you're tired of random NPCs forcing dialogue on you, this is a must-have. Skip if you prefer a more guided experience or use mods that overhaul quest systems.
