📋 About This Mod
Dawnstar Lighthouse Player Home and Quest
Update to V1. 1a: Just forgot to include a nif file in the downloads. It may have had an effect on switching the fire on.
Update to V1. 1: A new update: you can now start the fire at the cooking pot by clicking on the wood pile, and the stolen flag on the items will be removed if you use the key to open the lighthouse. This gives some aditional motivation to get the key. I also forwarded some entries from Heartfire and Dawnguard and updated some meshes.
Update to V1. 0: I really tried to make the Lighthouse compatible with Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions, but I give up. Try it, maybe it works for you. V1. 0 includes many small (mostly invisible) additions to allow for housing of children and a wife. Moving your wife works, the children just stand around and do nothing... The new version also includes some other tweaks.
Here's another small mod to make Dawnstar a bit more interesting:
Finally, Dawnstar gets a unique and cozy player home. The lighthouse. :) It should enable the player to roleplay as a Dawnstar citizen.
But you won't get the house for free. You'll have to solve a small puzzle before you can move in:
The lighthouse keeper Oriel disappeared some days ago. Nobody has seen him since or has a clue what happend... But he likes to go hunting, and he had a guest for the last few weeks... Feel invited to go and solve that puzzle. A small treasure and the key will await you at Oriel's place. If you just install the mod without taking care, you will probably find him at some point anyway while exploring the wilds... however, I think, he is quite well hidden, although not too far away from the lighthouse. The last few screenshots give some hints, if you can't manage to find him.
Since I don't know (yet) how to make a real quest in Skyrim, this small puzzle is actually a quest without a quest. There are different ways to solve the puzzle, and of course I have placed numerous hints... but see yourself... :)
One small clue right now: the ladders are all not functioning and just decoration.
About the player home:
I thought the lighthouse tower would make a nice small player home, so I increased the lighthouse's size a bit, added a door and a workshop ouside and created a fitting interior. The house has most of the usual amenities: cooking pot, 5 storage containers, some weapon displays and a few alchemy ingredients inside. Outside you find some crafting stations, a small garden and a 'toilet'. All missing crafting stations can be found in town. I know, this will make the house unattractive for evil player characters, but a vampire, bandit or dremora wouldn't fit into this player home anyway... it's rather supposed be a beginner's home, although
Dawnstar Lighthouse Player Home (and Quest) adds a cozy lighthouse player home to Dawnstar, complete with a small puzzle to unlock it. The mod includes updates for cooking fire interaction, key-based flag removal, and attempts at Hearthfire compatibility. It's a compact, roleplay-focused addition for Skyrim players seeking a unique home.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 91 endorsements and over 8,000 downloads—solid for a niche home mod.
- Adds a puzzle to unlock the home, giving a sense of discovery and roleplay.
- Recent updates (June 2026) show active maintenance and fixes for known issues.
⚠️ Cons
- Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions compatibility is broken—children just stand around, so don't expect a full family home.
- The 'quest' is a puzzle without a quest marker, so you might wander aimlessly if you don't use the screenshots for hints.
- Potential conflicts with mods that alter Dawnstar or the lighthouse area, given the custom meshes and world edits.
For Skyrim players who want a unique, cozy home in Dawnstar with a light puzzle to solve. If you enjoy roleplaying as a local citizen and don't mind a bit of exploration, this is for you. Skip if you need a fully functional family home or prefer quests with proper markers.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Use the screenshots in the mod description as hints if you can't find Oriel—he's hidden but not too far from the lighthouse.
- If you're using Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions, test it early; the author gave up on compatibility, so it may not work as expected.
- Make sure to grab the key before looting the lighthouse—it removes the stolen flag from items, so you don't get a bounty.
