📋 About This Mod
SUGGESTED TO USE THIS MOD BY AptenodytE INSTEAD!

This is a reupload of the awesome-as-heck mod Colorful Map Markers by WildGoat07 with a few fixes and extra compatibility.
The original mod included some large files that, when combined with certain mods, could cause CTDs when Skyrim ran out of memory to allocate to the HUD. After a false start, a few days of testing, and a lot of tedious fiddling, I've managed to resolve all the issues.
This bug has now been fixed in the latest SSE Engine Fixes!
My mod is still useful due to the optimizations I've made, and the new Less Intrusive HUD II patch.
Included in the FOMOD are options for:
-SkyUI + SkyHUD
-SkyUI + Less Intrusive HUD II
Make sure this loads after your HUD of choice.
beebophuckleberry has confirmed that this is compatible with original mod's 360 Compass patch. Thank you!
This does not reduce the size of the markers on the map in game, there is no visual difference.
If you would like that feature, I highly recommend Smaller Map Markers for SkyUI by rusecraft.
Fully compatible (and recommended to use with):
- Atlas Map Markers with MCM
- Undiscovered Means Unknown (thank you BrinaSair!!)
Check out Colo(u)rful Nordic UI Markers by CyborgArmGun if you want a cool-themed version based on Nordic UI!
I did not create the art in this, please endorse the original mod!
SirJesto - for pointing out what was right in front of me
Ebsalom - for killing his computer in the name of science, and testing
Ryan - for being so quick to fix the issue and push out a new SSE Engine Fixes update
Everyone on the r/skyrimmods Discord for being so danged cool!
(I also fixed the awful spelling error in the original mod's name)
This mod fixes the original Colourful Map Markers to improve stability and prevent random crashes. It includes configuration files for SkyUI, SkyHUD, Less Intrusive HUD II, and Vanilla, all packaged in a simple FOMOD installer. Ideal for Skyrim players who want colorful map markers without instability.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Stability fix addresses random CTDs, a real problem with the original mod
- One FOMOD covers multiple popular UI mods, so you don't need separate patches
- Community-tested with 808 endorsements and over 17k downloads
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in January 2021, so it may not be compatible with the latest Skyrim versions
- Only works with the UI mods listed; if you use a different HUD mod, you're out of luck
- Potential conflicts with other map marker overhauls or UI mods not listed
For Skyrim players who use Colourful Map Markers and want a crash-free experience. If you're already using SkyUI, SkyHUD, or Less Intrusive HUD II, this is a must-have. Skip if you don't use those UI mods or prefer a different map marker style.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 to install the FOMOD and select your UI config
- If you're using SkyUI, make sure it's installed before this mod so the config applies correctly
- Check your load order to ensure this mod loads after your UI mods for proper overwrite
