📋 About This Mod
Description
Collision Sentinel is an engine-level fix that teaches Skyrim to survive broken collision on modded meshes. Vanilla has no defense one bad mesh and it crashes or freezes.
Collision Sentinel catches the bad data at runtime and keeps the game standing.
And it doesn't just hide the problem it names it. When it catches a bad collision, it logs the exact culprit (full NIF path, FormIDs, cell and coordinates), so you can track down and fix the broken mesh instead of masking it forever. The lookup is read-only and guarded, so it can't crash while reporting.
Built for the heaviest load orders packed with custom meshes city overhauls, interiors, dungeons. On small, clean setups you won't need it.
Small SKSE plugin: no ESP, no record edits, nothing written to your save, safe to add or remove anytime.
Q: Is the source code available?
A: Not at the moment. The plugin is closed-source for now. If this changes, I will update the mod page.
Q: Is this CPU heavy?
A: No. The overhead is negligible. It adds a tiny safety check to an already-existing engine step. This is a stability fix, not a performance tax.
Q: Does it log the bad meshes it catches?
A: Yes, since 1. 4 it logs the full NIF path, FormIDs, cell and coordinates of the culprit. The lookup is read-only and fully guarded, so it can't crash while reporting, and each mesh is named only once. No setup needed.
Q: How do broken meshes look with this mod installed?
A: Nothing changes visually. The object looks and behaves the same. Collision Sentinel only neutralizes the bad collision value at the moment of the check so the game does not crash. It does not repair, hide, or replace the mesh.
Q: Can this fix bad texture crashes too?
A: No. Texture crashes are a different problem. I personally have not investigated bad texture CTDs. Usually textures are easier to fix by resaving or optimizing the DDS, and Crash Logger may help point to the offending file.
Q: Is this the same as Havok Fix?
A: No. Havok Fix deals with high-FPS physics timing. Collision Sentinel fixes a different engine crash path caused by invalid collision results from broken or unstable modded meshes.
Q: Will this fix all crashes?
A: No. It only targets one specific collision-related engine crash/freeze path. It will not fix bad scripts, broken saves, missing masters, bad animations, texture crashes, or unrelated CTDs.
Q: Is it safe to add or remove mid-playthrough?
A: Yes. It is runtime-
Collision Sentinel is a crash fix for Skyrim SE/AE/VR that detects and prevents crashes from broken collision on modded meshes, logging the exact NIF, FormIDs, and location. It is lightweight, save-safe, and designed for heavy load orders. With 1,446 endorsements and 61,923 downloads, it's a popular tool for modders troubleshooting stability issues.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 1,446 endorsements and 61,923 downloads.
- Logs exact crash cause, so you can fix the mod instead of just masking the issue.
- Save-safe and lightweight, so it won't bloat your game or risk your saves.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires you to manually fix the offending mod after it logs the culprit, which may be technical.
- Potential compatibility risk with other crash-fix mods that alter collision handling.
- May not address crashes from non-collision sources, so it's not a universal fix.
For Skyrim modders running heavy load orders who are tired of random crashes and want a tool that pinpoints the exact broken mesh. If you're a casual player with a light mod list, you might not need it, but if you're troubleshooting stability, this is a must-have.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Place Collision Sentinel early in your load order to ensure it loads before other mods that might trigger crashes.
- Check the log file after a crash to identify the offending NIF, then use that info to disable or fix the specific mod.
- If you're on Skyrim VR, make sure you're using the VR-compatible version, as SE/AE versions may not work.
