  Backstory

  Jyreen's father was a famous alchemist, and she spent her days watching him work in his lab. He was experimenting with the essence of shadow and its effect on living things, writing a study for the College of Winterhold. Sadly, it would be his final work. Jyreen was there in the lab when the shadow essence escaped its containment and burned him to cinders. The shadow then swept over the young girl, but instead of consuming her, it joined with her at the cellular level.

  Scholars and mages came to Whiterun from across Skyrim to study her, and rumors spread of a child cursed by shadow. Those who examined her spoke of the enormous power inside her body, and some grew fearful, demanding she be destroyed before the shadow could take full control. The Archmage of Winterhold refused. Instead, he set his best mages to train her to master the power of shadow. He gave her a focus in the form of a sword and had her trained in its use, so she could bend the shadow magic within her to her will and unleash it through
