📋 About This Mod
Falkreath version is not included because the meshes are already sufficiently optimized and would see little gains from optimization.
Dawnstar meshes have the most tri count reduction, with up to 90% of tris removed from some meshes. Includes some tweaks to correct wood grain directions.
Morthal meshes removes a lot of overlapping tris and made the wood grains follow the correct direction.
Winterhold meshes contain mostly UV fixes and vertex normal tweaks, with some optimization on the castle meshes.
Future plans:
Parallax meshes
Morthal stone foundations
Let this mod overwrite mods like Lux since my mod already includes split interior meshes.
The fixes from Simplicity of Snow - Cities of The North and LOD Mesh Fixes for DynDOLOD are already included in this mod.
The Winterhold meshes also work for TGC Winterhold V4.
If you are using vanilla textures version, you will still need the original mod from Janquel to also cover TGC buildings.
Load this mod after the TGC V4 Vanilla texture paths.
JPSteel2 for the Cities of the North assets
Janquel for their partitioned CotN interiors assets
wSkeever for Simplicity of Snow and the original Simplicity of Snow - CotN patch

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Huge community approval (1,621 endorsements) and over 1.3 million downloads — this is a proven performance mod
- Optimizes without sacrificing looks, so you keep the visual quality you installed COTN for
- Lightweight and to the point — does one job and does it well
⚠️ Cons
- Only works with Cities of the North mods — useless if you don't use that city overhaul
- No detailed changelog or compatibility notes provided by the author
- Last updated in July 2024 — might not be updated for the latest Skyrim version or other COTN patches
For Skyrim players who love Cities of the North but struggle with FPS drops in those cities. If you're on a mid-range rig or want smoother gameplay without sacrificing visuals, this is a must-have. Skip if you don't use COTN or if you're already running a high-end system with no performance issues.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have Cities of the North installed first, then drop this mod in and let it overwrite the original meshes.
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2 to handle the file overwrite cleanly — it'll save you headaches if you need to revert.
- Check your load order — this mod should load after COTN to ensure the optimized meshes take effect.
