📋 About This Mod
So a few folks had asked why their buildings looked so weird every now and again, and what it ended up being boils down to this: COTN buildings use vanilla textures. On one hand, this is great! They benefit from your texture replacers! On the other hand, sometimes things aren't oriented the same way as the original textures and things can end up looking a bit funky.
So this is a resource available for folks who want to keep the vanilla textures for these buildings while using fancy texture replacers elsewhere. The meshes in question are pre-built to include changes for NSUTR and ELFX, so no worries using them with those patches. If you want to keep your fancy texture replacers only for the insides, then delete the meshes for the insides which come as part of this download - simple as that.
Not going to spend a bunch of time on this one, just throwing it out there for those who might want it. If folks want to take these and run and come up with specialized texture combos just for those buildings and release that, by all means: please do!
Thanks to Cleaned Skyrim SE Textures for the cleaned vanilla textures used
This small compatibility patch for Cities of the North - Dawnstar forces the mod's buildings to use vanilla textures instead of the Windhelm replacer textures, preventing visual oddities from misaligned textures. It's a must-have for players who use texture overhauls that affect Windhelm and want a consistent look.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Fixes a real visual issue if you use Windhelm texture replacers
- Lightweight and focused—does exactly what it says
- Solid community trust with 377 endorsements
⚠️ Cons
- Only useful if you actually use Windhelm texture replacers—otherwise pointless
- Requires Cities of the North - Dawnstar as a base mod
- No updates since January 2023, so may not be compatible with newer versions of COTN
For Skyrim modders who have Cities of the North - Dawnstar and use texture overhauls that replace Windhelm textures, causing visual glitches. Skip if you don't use Windhelm texture replacers or if you're fine with the default COTN textures.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Install this after Cities of the North - Dawnstar and your texture overhaul so it overwrites correctly.
- If you use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, let this mod load after the texture replacer to ensure it takes effect.
- Check the mod's posts section for any notes about compatibility with specific texture overhauls.
