📋 About This Mod
I have moved onto Blocking and Flash VR - Redux from Aelover! It works for NPC and also doesn't break unarmed brawls. Highly recommended!
I am a huge fan of Inpa Sekiro's amazing block sparks and sound effects which add a ton of impact to melee, but didn't like the huge sweeping changes to the stamina system it made.
I believe the player should be able to choose whatever combination of combat mods they want to use and still enjoy the benefits of the enhanced melee impact. The problem is all the modern combat mods, like Valhalla Combat and Maxsu's Simple Block Sparks run newer version of SKSE and can not be used for VR, so I had to dig deeper.
Fortunately for VR players, Korean modder AP05 created Blocking and Flash for SSE in 2019 using Papyrus and it allows me to turn off gameplay changes with a couple of ESP edits. I also made a few small tweaks to make it better visually in VR.
Full credit to AP05 who created Blocking and Flash mod, and Maxsu for the inspiration of a stand alone block spark mod that does not interfere with gameplay!
I also recommend Improved Weapon Impact Effect and Improved Sparks to further improve spark effects.
How Does This Differ From Strike Obstruction, Deflection, etc?
These mods only add a little FX for Timed Block. Blocking and Flash VR has far more impactful visual and audio effects on EVERY block. You can still use other blocking mods for gameplay purposes, and use AP05's mod for far superior effects.
Does This Work For SSE?
Yes it should, although visuals are tuned for first person and you probably should be running Valhalla Combat or Maxsu Block Sparks instead. Modern DLL implementation is simply more efficient than Papyrus scripting.
Adds block sparks and impact sounds to Skyrim VR without altering gameplay. A lightweight audio-visual enhancement for VR players seeking more satisfying combat feedback. With 316 endorsements and 38,303 downloads, it's a popular choice for immersion-focused modders.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 316 endorsements and 38k downloads
- Pure immersion boost – no gameplay changes, just better feedback
- Lightweight and focused, does exactly what it says
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects block sparks and impact sounds – if you want more combat overhauls, look elsewhere
- Last updated in 2022, so may not be compatible with the latest Skyrim VR updates
- Potential conflicts with other sound or visual overhaul mods that modify the same effects
For Skyrim VR players who want more satisfying combat feedback without changing gameplay. If you're a purist who wants vanilla mechanics but better audio-visual cues, this is for you. Skip if you're looking for gameplay overhauls or if you're on non-VR Skyrim.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have Skyrim VR and not the regular edition – this mod is VR-specific.
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 to keep your load order clean.
- If you have other sound mods, place this one after them in the load order to ensure its sounds take priority.
