📋 About This Mod
Description:
This mod tries to expand the barefoot footstep sounds experience in Skyrim by adding sounds to surfaces like carpet, sand and metal, as well as creating barefoot sneaking sounds to all of these and vanilla surfaces ( new sounds for dirt, gravel and snow). It's a similar mod to what I did for Fallout 4 and uses the same sound resources. Works for both Player and NPC characters.
The footstep sets include:
- stone / rock (walking, sneaking, running, sprinting and jumping down) - replaced vanilla barefoot sounds with new ones.
- wood (walking, sneaking, running, sprinting and jumping down) - just vanilla barefoot sounds; added sneaking sounds and jump down.
- metal (walking, sneaking, running, sprinting and jumping down) - a barefoot sound set for all metal surfaces.
- carpet (walking, sneaking, running, sprinting and jumping down) - a barefoot sound set for carpets and rugs.
- sand / mud (walking, sneaking, running, sprinting and jumping down) - a barefoot sound set for sand and mud surfaces.
- dirt (walking, sneaking, running, sprinting and jumping down) - a barefoot sound set for dirt surfaces.
- gravel (walking, sneaking, running, sprinting and jumping down) - a barefoot sound set for gravel surfaces.
- snow (walking, sneaking, running, sprinting and jumping down) - a barefoot sound set for snow surfaces.
- grass, ice, water puddle (walking, sneaking, running, sprinting and jumping down) - just vanilla footsteps (only slightly modified in some cases), but defined here as barefoot for consistency.
No videos for the mod, sorry. If you would like to check how some of these footsteps sound, please visit my mod for Fallout 4: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/45101 There are a few showcases of the new sounds there in the videos tab (sounds from version 1. 2 not included).

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Huge download count (303,874) shows it's a go-to for audio immersion
- Adds missing surface types like carpet and sand, making barefoot travel feel more real
- Sneaking sounds included—stealth players get the full package
⚠️ Cons
- Only covers three surfaces (carpet, sand, metal)—other materials like grass or stone are untouched
- Last updated in 2024—might not be updated for future Skyrim patches, though it's likely fine for now
For Skyrim players who love roleplaying as a barefoot wanderer or thief and want every step to sound right. Also for audio purists who notice when footsteps don't match the ground. Skip if you don't care about footstep sounds or rarely play barefoot.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, just download and install—no extra steps needed.
- Test the sounds on carpet in a building like Dragonsreach to hear the difference.
- Pair with a mod that lets you remove shoes (like a barefoot perk mod) to get the full effect.
