📋 About This Mod
Introduction
This is an SKSE plugin that reads in a configuration file and renames items from your entire load order based on that.
My inspiration for making this was that I was getting annoyed picking up items with names like "Ring of Lockpicking" while using Adamants Hand-to-Hand addon, where those should actually be "Ring of Hand to Hand" or similar. I could have made a new esp file to override all such items, but didn't want to locate all of them in various mods and make all the overrides. Instead I decided to make a plugin that could handle that rename and any others for me without needing any new mod files added.
This was built against CommonLibSSE-NG so should be compatible with all versions, but has only been tested with 1. 5. 97.
Configuration
This mod needs to be configured using files. It will first read in the file "Data/SKSE/Plugins/AutomaticRenamer.json", if it exists, and then reads all "*.json" files found under "Data/SKSE/Plugins/AutomaticRenamer/" in alphabetical order and merges them together.
A file that shows the format but performs no actual renaming is included in the download.
To configure renames, add pairs inside the relevant entry within the json file. Consider the following json:
["Lockpicking", "Hand to Hand"]
"Weapon": [],
"Ingredient": [
["Mountain Flower", "Petunia"],
["Butterfly", "Bug"]
"Ingestible": [
["Potion", "Elixir"]
With that json file loaded, items will be renamed within the category specified, with the first string being replaced by the second. So the following are examples of renames that would occur:
Ring of Major Lockpicking -> Ring of Major Hand to Hand
Purple Mountain Flower -> Purple Petunia
Blue Butterfly Wings -> Blue Bug Wings
Potion of Health -> Elixir of Health
Feature - Exact Match
There is an optional third element for replacements, which indicates that only names that match exactly should be replaced. Consider the following json:
"Ingestible": [
["Wine", "Champagne", true]
With this configuration, ingestibles named exactly "Wine" will be renamed to "Champagne". "Alto Wine" will not be renamed. If the third element is false, or omitted, then exact matches are not required and "Alto Wine" would be renamed to "Alto Champage".
Replacements are case sensitive - the above configuration would not rename an item called "Ring of Major lockpicking".
Note that matches will be replaced with no regard for context, so if you were to use the following
"Armor": [],
"Weapon": [],
