📋 About This Mod
Ashes and Flames - Spawn and Guardian Retex
Port to SSE
Link to the original mod
With permission from ZeroKing, I merely ported his retexture of the Ash Spawn and Ash Guardian to Special Edition for more convenience as we didn't have any retexture for these two poor creatures. Meshes have been run through Nif Optimizer.
Features:
From the original description page:
It's a retexture of the Ash Spawn and Ash Guardian creatures. I just cleaned up the diffuse maps a tad, added some contrast to it, and sharpened some minor details. Normal maps were cleaned up, smoothed out and heightened to increase bump detail only. No real high-resolution work was done.
Diffuse maps are compressed.
Normal maps are compressed.
The textures are twice the Bethesda High Resolution Texture Pack resolution sizes.
Installation:
Copy and paste into your Skyrim directory or use your favorite mod manager: download and install.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 2,786 endorsements and 1.4 million downloads—clearly a go-to for Solstheim creature textures.
- Does exactly what it says: retextures both Ash Spawn and Ash Guardian, no bloat.
- Lightweight and easy to install—just drop the files in and go.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2018—might not be patched for the latest Skyrim SE updates, though texture mods usually survive.
- Only covers two creatures; if you want a full Solstheim overhaul, you'll need other mods.
- No screenshots or detailed previews in the description, so you're flying blind on the visual quality.
For Skyrim SE players who want better-looking Ash Spawn and Ash Guardian without overhauling the whole game. If you're a completionist who loves Solstheim and wants those creatures to look less dated, this is a quick win. Skip if you're after gameplay changes or a full creature texture pack—this is purely cosmetic and limited to two enemies.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 to install—it's a simple drag-and-drop, but a manager keeps your load order clean.
- Since it's a texture mod, load order doesn't matter much, but place it after any mods that alter the same creatures to ensure it takes effect.
- Check the mod's files in the manager to see the texture resolution—if you're on a low-end PC, you might want to stick with the default.
