📋 About This Mod
Armory of the Dragon cult is a really cool mod that provides unique rewards for defeating dragon priests. Dragon priests will drop enchanted robes that you can then take to a forge to upgrade with their respective material.
This is a really neat concept and it is obvious that there was a lot of hard work put into making the mod. I wanted to provide some restrictions while preserving the idea of giving a cool reward for defeating the dragon priests.
- []Includes support for the main module, the standalone version, and the Wyrmstooth addon.
-
[]Changes mentioned affect all priests' gear with the exception of Miraak's, which has been left alone.
Changes
-
[]Armor upgrades are locked behind the dragon smithing perk:
All robes were upgradable to armors by using their respective material and were not locked behind any smithing perk requirements. Since the upgraded armored variants were dragon level armors I locked them behind the dragon smithing perk.
[
]Enchantments are removed from the robes/armors:My preference is simply that the robes should be a nice unique aesthetic bonus for defeating a priest, while the mask provides the enchantment reward. Therefore, the enchantments have been removed from the armor pieces and robes.
[]Armor/Robe set bonuses are removed:
In addition to having access to the enchantments, having 4 pieces of dragon priest armor/robes provided a set bonus of 25% increase in shout power and 50% shout cooldown duration on top of the other enchantments. This has been removed.
[]Dragon priest gloves/boots drops are no longer dragon level:
Before, all boots and gloves dropped by dragon priests were at dragon level armor ratings. The following changes have been made to alter this behavior:
[]All gloves and boots have been changed to clothing items and given 0 armor rating.
[]Weights have been decreased.
- New recipes have been added to go along with the robe upgrades. You can now upgrade the gloves/boots to armored variants just like you would with the robes.
Q: Why would you nerf these robes and armors?
A: Because I want to adjust things to fit with my setup, and I figured I would share the changes for others if they want them
-
[]Armor upgrades are locked behind the dragon smithing perk:
This mod rebalances the Armory of the Dragon Cult mod by removing enchantments and set bonuses from dragon priest robes and armors, locking armor upgrades behind the Dragon Smithing perk, and changing gloves/boots to clothing items. It supports the main module, standalone version, and Wyrmstooth addon, leaving Miraak's gear untouched. For players who prefer unenchanted gear and a more balanced reward system.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Gives you a reason to actually use the Dragon Smithing perk—now those upgrades feel earned.
- Removing enchantments means you can apply your own, so your build isn't locked into preset effects.
- Toning down the set bonus makes dragon priest loot less overpowered, which is a win for balance-focused players.
⚠️ Cons
- If you liked the original mod's enchantments and set bonuses, this strips that power fantasy away.
- Changing gloves and boots to clothing means you lose armor rating, which might hurt survivability on higher difficulties.
- Since it's a patch for another mod, you need to make sure you have the right version of Armory of the Dragon Cult installed, or things might break.
For Skyrim players who use Armory of the Dragon Cult but want a more balanced, unenchanted loot experience. If you're a purist who prefers to enchant your own gear and dislike overpowered set bonuses, this is for you. Skip if you love the original mod's enchantments and set bonuses exactly as they are.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have the original Armory of the Dragon Cult mod installed first, and pick the right version (main, standalone, or Wyrmstooth) to match your setup.
- Since enchantments are removed, you'll need to enchant the gear yourself—so stock up on filled soul gems and visit an enchanting table.
- If you're using a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, load this patch after the original mod to ensure the changes apply correctly.
