📋 About This Mod

Skyrim makes you equip an item to find out how it looks on you. That is fine for one helmet, but not for a whole merchant's stock, chests full of loot or browsing apparel via tools like Add Item Menu. Apparel Preview shows gear on your character while you are still browsing, without equipping anything.

Hover on an item and press C when in your inventory, a merchant's stock, or a container, to see it on your character without equipping it.

FEATURES

  • []Preview armor, clothing, and jewelry on your character without equipping it. It is visual only; nothing you are actually wearing changes.[/]

[]Works in the inventory, barter, and container menus.[/]

[]A native "Preview" button on the item card, so it sits right next to the game's own prompts and matches your UI.[/]

[]Controller and keyboard, with the correct button glyph shown for your device.[/]

[]The preview ends cleanly when you equip the item, close the menu, or move on to something that cannot be previewed.[/]

[]Configurable via an in game menu.[/]

    HOW TO USE IT

    • []Keyboard: Press the item zoom key (C by default)[/]

[]Controller: Press the right joystick (R3)[/]

      REQUIREMENTS

      • []Skyrim Special Edition 1. 5. 97, or Anniversary Edition 1. 6. 317+. No VR support yet. [/]

        []SKSE64 for your runtime.[/]

[]Address Library for SKSE Plugins (SE or AE database to match).[/]

[]Show Player In Inventory So you can actually see your character. [/]

[]FLICK for the in-game settings panel. Without it, the settings are available through the INI.[/]

[]Dynamic Inventory Icon Injector (To see the preview icon).[/]

        HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

        • []Menu Studio (Pause the world when you open a menu and keep your character live and posed, in a clean studio of your choosing).

[]Fitting Room (Change how your gear looks without changing what it does and so much more. Save outfits and wear them over your real equipment, like transmog in The Elder Scrolls Online).

          INSTALLATION

Install with a mod manager (Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex) like any other SKSE plugin, or copy the SKSE/Plugins folder into your Data folder manually. There is no plugin file (.esp). Safe to add or remove mid playthrough; it makes no changes to your save.

          KNOWN LIMITATIONS

[*]The item needs a body model for your character. Apparel Preview shows the item on the body you actually have insta

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Apparel Preview lets you see armor, clothing, and jewelry on your character without equipping it, working in inventory, barter, and container menus. It adds a native preview button, supports keyboard and controller, and is configurable via an in-game menu. Requires several SKSE plugins and is for Skyrim Special Edition or Anniversary Edition.

✨ Key Features

Preview armor, clothing, and jewelry on your character without equipping it, purely visual.
Works in inventory, barter, and container menus.
Adds a native 'Preview' button on the item card that matches your UI.
Supports keyboard (C key) and controller (R3) with correct button glyphs.
Preview ends cleanly when equipping, closing menu, or moving to non-previewable items.
Configurable via an in-game menu (requires FLICK) or INI.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Huge time-saver for loot hoarders and shopaholics—no more equip-and-unequip dance.
  • Works across all the key menus: inventory, barter, and containers.
  • Community-trusted with 206 endorsements and over 5k downloads.

⚠️ Cons

  • Requires a hefty stack of dependencies (SKSE, Address Library, Show Player In Inventory, FLICK, Dynamic Inventory Icon Injector) which can be a pain to set up.
  • No VR support yet, so VR players are out of luck.
  • Potential compatibility risk with other UI mods that alter the same menus or item cards.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who love trying on gear before buying or looting, especially those who use mods like Add Item Menu. If you're tired of equipping every helmet to see if it looks good, this is a must-have. Skip if you're on VR or don't want to deal with a dependency chain.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you have the correct Address Library version for your game (SE 1.5.97 or AE 1.6.317+).
  • If you don't want to install FLICK, you can still configure the mod via its INI file.
  • Use a mod manager like MO2 or Vortex to handle the dependency chain and keep load order clean.
