📋 About This Mod

The texture in question is whbigblocks01ssmask.dds, I left a comment on the mod page, but no reply or updates since. So assume they are busy, pretty trivial thing to fix. All you have to do is open the dds in paintdotnet and resize the image from 1025x1025 to 1024x1024. I saved and ran the texture through cathedral asset optimizer too. So it should work normally now and behave the same as vanilla textures.

It may be an overreaction to say that this incorrectly scaled texture may crash your game, I am still new to working with textures and most of what I know is from reading from forums and other mod pages. So disclaimer, I could be wrong to say it may crash your game, but it could cause problems. What problems? I do not know, but the rescaled texture is in fact correct and working. So if you use Ancient AF Windhelm - Windhelm Retextured, I strongly reccommend you download this file too.

It works for the 2k and 4k version of the mod, because this texture is the same for both packages.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

This small bug fix mod addresses a single problematic texture in Windhelm that was 1025x1025, a non-standard size that could cause crashes. It's a targeted fix for players experiencing CTDs in that city, with 221 endorsements and over 100k downloads.

✨ Key Features

Fixes a 1025x1025 texture in Windhelm that could cause the game to crash
Simple retexture correction with no gameplay changes
Lightweight and focused on stability

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Directly addresses a known crash cause with a simple fix
  • Community-trusted with 221 endorsements and over 100k downloads
  • Zero impact on visuals or performance—just stability

⚠️ Cons

  • Only fixes one texture; other CTD sources in Windhelm remain
  • No compatibility notes for other Windhelm overhauls—may conflict if they replace the same texture
  • Last updated in 2023, so it might not be actively maintained for newer game versions
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who crash in Windhelm and suspect texture issues. If you're running a modded setup and hit CTDs specifically in that city, this is a quick fix to try. Skip if you don't crash there or if you use a comprehensive Windhelm retexture that already handles this.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 1 minute

💡 Beginner Tips

  • If you use a mod manager, just download and activate—it will overwrite the bad texture automatically.
