1. 0) DESCRIPTION The Art of Magicka (AOM) is an artwork and item expansion for Skyrim mages. But it is more than that. Combined with any magicka overhaul, AOM will help to reinvent the Skyrim mage experience by adding a dye system, powerful unlockable gear and over 600 craftable items (most of which are entirely new).

HIGH-REZ TEXTURES: Most of the robes are scaled to 4096. The robe normal maps use 8. 8. 8. 8 ARGB. These are very large and mostly uncompressed files but provide an amazing level of detail when a texture is crafted from photographic imagery (as these robes are). Most of the non-robe items use standard file sizes and formats.

LOW-REZ TEXTURES: Almost every texture and normal map has been set to 1024. For people using a lot of mods or with low-end/older machines this will provide the best stability. If you experience a CTD when scrolling through the crafting menu, use this.

1. 1) PIGMENTS & LINENS Pigments (dyes) and colored linens are crafted at the Font of Transmutation. Some crafting materials are easy to find but some will require you to kill difficult enemies (or find them on a merchant). Dyed linens are required to make the robes. You can craft them from ancient linens and pigments at a Font of Transmutation.

1. 2) UNLOCKING NEW ITEMS Part of the goal of this mod is to reward players for playing pure mages. As you learn new mage perks you will unlock the ability to craft more powerful items. Some of these items are quite powerful but none of them are "god items" and those that are powerful require dedication to magicka.

1. 3) CRAFTING STATIONS All of the new crafting stations can be found in Dragonsreach and in the Archmage quarters. Any items that have soul gems as an ingredient, call for filled soul gems (other than soul gem crafting). Most of the new items are craftable by any character. The most powerful and unique ones are not.

1. 4) MERCHANTS Nearby each set of crafting stations you will find a merchant that will sell a few AOM items, including some crafting materials. Kalell can be found in Dragonsreach and Mightiony can be found in the Hall of Countenance.

2. 1) INSTALLATION I recommend using Nexus Mod Manager. Otherwise follow the standard manual installation procedures.

WHEN UPDATING: Uninstall all old AOM files first (especially the ARTOFMAGIC.esp). When updating from 7. 8 - 8. 0 a clean save in not neccessary. Just uninstall 7. 8's multiple files and install 8. 0's single file and play. All items, except the orb of eyes, will still be there.

3. 0) TROUBLESHOOTING & FAQ

I'm New and I Have a Problem Welcome to the Nexus. The first thing that you should know is that Nexus Mod Manager is in beta. There will be imperfections. Please take the time to check out the Nexus Forums if you have questions and/or problems. Check out the following Nexus article that the Nexus won't let me link to for some reason. It will help you learn how to fix issues you may experience and become a better, more informed Nexus citizen.

Downloading Issues If a file on the Nexus doesn't download, try again later. This is a common issue for files on the nexus and is beyond my control. If you have trouble you can download manually and choose the server that is closest to you because NMM just picks whichever one has the least users and you're more likely to get disconnected when downloading such a large file. After downloading go into NMM and select OPEN, then navigate to wherever you downloaded the file to and install it with NMM. If you need further help, there are multiple threads in the Nexus forum addressing various download issues.

CTD The most common cause of crashes is improper installation. Make sure that you have both AOM.esm and AOM.esp activated in NMM or the data files section of the Skyrim launcher and that the old ARTOFMAGIC.esp has been deactivated. Some other things that may cause problems are edited .ini files, out of date graphics drivers or old versions of Skyrim.

UglyKidCid recently added inventory views to all items. This should eliminate most CTD's during inventory view. If you still get a CTD in inventory view use the low-rez texture pack. 1st Person Maximum Compatibility Skeleton is also required for version 8. 0 or later
