📋 About This Mod
Random Mining
by IsharaMeradin
Notice: Random Mining MCM has been released and is preferable over this release. Please use it if at all possible. This release has rolled back to version 1. 4 under the label of version 1. 6. Experience from magic mining is now not possible with these scripts, for that please use Random Mining MCM. Thank you.
Three versions in two flavors each, all of which are Hearthfire friendly and safe to use with any DLC combination. Also carries over USKP corrections. Should SKSE be installed the notification as ore is obtained is modified to give a running tally (see images for an example).
The Flavors No Skill

- []Gives 5 points Alteration skill per ore if a valid magic projectile is used (Example: Extract Ore spell from Mining For Mages) [/] []Gives 5 points Smithing skill per ore if a valid tools is used (Example: Pickaxe)[/]
- []Default -- Normal mining except that you'll randomly receive between 3 and 9 ore. [/] []Lazy Man -- Only takes 3 attack hits or one set of 3 animation swings via activation to net the randomly decided amount of ore. [/] []Hard Worker -- Alteration skill or Smithing skill determines the ore received as well as how strikes are necessary to obtain the ore. The skill used is determined by "tool" used. [/]
Hard Worker Skill vs Ore breakdown Skill level -- Ore gained 91 & up ---- 7 to 9 ore 76 to 90 --- 5 to 9 ore 51 to 75 --- 3 to 7 ore 26 to 50 --- 3 to 5 ore 25 & less -- 3 ore
Hard Worker Skill vs Strikes breakdown Skill level -- Strikes needed 91 & up ---- 1 to 2 strikes 76 to 90 --- 2 to 3 strikes 51 to 75 --- 3 to 4 strikes 26 to 50
Random Mining is a Skyrim mod that changes mining to yield 3 to 9 ore per vein, with two modes: Lazy Man gives all ore at once, while Hard Worker makes skill determine quantity and duration. It's a simple utility for players who want more rewarding mining.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Simple and effective: more ore per vein means less time spent mining.
- Two playstyles covered: instant gratification or skill-based reward.
- Decent community trust with 351 endorsements.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2014 — may be outdated for current Skyrim versions.
- Only affects ore veins, not other mining-related features.
For Skyrim players who find mining tedious and want a quicker way to gather ore. Also for those who enjoy a skill-based twist on resource gathering. Skip if you prefer vanilla mining balance.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you're using Skyrim Special Edition, check if the mod needs conversion or a compatible version.
- Back up your save before installing to avoid issues if you want to revert.
- Test both modes to see which fits your playstyle.
