📋 About This Mod

SE version here!

MOD IS BACKPORTED FROM SE, THIS LE VERSION IS NOT SUPPORTED!

SE version is more updated.

Sure, there are other Winterhold mods, but I didn't like any of the ones I saw. Why add MORE USELESS RUINS that just take up space??? It really drives me eff-ing crazy. I mean, it's one thing if you're showing it as a historical archaeological site, but The Great Collapse was 200 YEARS AGO, so how about we actually RESTORE the City already! Although "The Great City of Winterhold" is good at one thing: inspiring the immense former grandeur of the once-powerful and famous City-State.

This mod seeks to make Winterhold not the great city it once was, but the new city it can be. It began as a very simple mod, named "Winterhold Rebuilt," to replace the ruined houses with new ones and merchants. Then Quaxe made a mod with same name that did same things, so I changed mine to "Winterhold Restored" as I added more touches. And then someone else did that and took that name! Sigh

I've been working on this mod for several years  now on and off (at least 4, maybe even 6, never even released it for Oldrim), and actually scrapped it 3x and started over. Finally decided to research some of the actual history of Winterhold (which I found really interesting!) and incorporate some of that into the mod... somehow. So that's for the future.

Anywho, I decided I better go ahead and publish this before even more people do the same thing... like that other... with the same name "Winterhold Restored"... stole my name... and just happened to publish it first. I'll give him/her this though, that mod does look incredibly cool and does so much more than mine. No, I'm not jealous at all, lol takes a moment to sulk

Right now:

1) Turned the ruined houses into shops-homes, with custom-voiced merchants

- New custom signs too!

2) Protective stone wall on the cliff side to keep out that frigid wind!

- Activator by the Enchanting table in Player Home to switch between Wall and Tree Screen

3) Player cabin, Snowstone Lodge, done up like a Mage's home

- 4 Activators: Summon a Shrine, Hang a Painting, Take A Bath, and Change Wall

4) Stable with 4 horses (currently free, but future will make that guy a horse merchant)

5) CW and any other markers in the ruined houses were shifted just out of the way

6) Navmeshes were adjusted around the new buildings, fully tested and finalized

7) Fully Navmeshed new interiors for Followers

8) Several skulls, boulders, snow drifts, dead trees etc. disabled

9) Some places r

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community favorite with 422 endorsements and over 6,000 downloads
  • Adds meaningful life to a usually barren city
  • Custom-voiced merchants make the new shops feel immersive

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in 2019, so may have compatibility issues with newer Skyrim versions
  • No mention of patches for popular mods like JK's Skyrim or The Great Cities
  • Requires a new save or careful load order to avoid conflicts with other town overhauls
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who enjoy city overhauls and want Winterhold to feel like a real settlement. If you're a completionist who likes exploring new shops and having a player home in every hold, this is for you. Skip if you prefer lore-friendly ruins or use other Winterhold overhauls that might conflict.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 5 minutes

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Place this mod near the bottom of your load order to ensure its changes take precedence over other town mods.
  • If you use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, let it handle the file placement to avoid overwriting issues.
  • Check for compatibility patches if you use other mods that alter Winterhold, such as The Great Cities or Immersive Citizens.
