A lightweight Windows utility to view, filter and export your Nexus Mods Vortex mod lists.

Overview

VortexModLists reads mod metadata directly from your local Vortex installation and displays it in an organized table. Perfect for backup, sharing, or documentation of your mod setups.

No Vortex plugins needed — just point it to your Vortex data folder and go!

  For each mod, the app displays:

  • []Mod Name — The mod's full name[/]

    []ID — Unique mod identifier[/]

    []Version — Current mod version[/]

    []Homepage — Clickable link to the mod page[/]

    []Status — Active or Inactive indicator[/]

    Getting Started

    Installation

    1. Download the VortexModLists-Setup.exe.

    2. Run the installer and follow the prompts.

    3. Launch VortexModLists from the Start menu.

    Latest Release: Download here

    First Run

    The app automatically searches for Vortex data in the standard location:

    %appdata%\Vortex\temp\state_backups_fullIf found, your mod list loads instantly.

    Manual Data Source

    If automatic detection doesn't work:

    1. Click Browse...

    2. Select either:

    • []A specific Vortex JSON file (e.g. hourly.json)[/]

      []The entire backup folder (the app searches for the newest JSON)[/]

    3. Click Search Again to reload

    The app remembers your choice for next time.

    Exporting Your Mod Lists

    Supported Formats

    • []CSV — Import into spreadsheets or databases[/]

      []Markdown — Use online, or for documentation[/]

      []Excel — Formatted (.xslx) with one sheet per game[/]

    Export Options
    • []Selected Game — Export only the currently viewed game[/]

      []All Games — Export mods from every managed game[/]

        Requirements

          []Nexus Mods Vortex installed with local state files[/]

          Vortex Data Files

          The app reads these Vortex JSON files (in order of preference):

          1. Most recent JSON in state_backups_full folder

          2. state.json — Regular Vortex backup

          3. Any .json file in the Vortex data folder

          Note: The app reads your Vortex data in read-only mode. It never modifies your Vortex setup or deployed mods.
