📋 About This Mod
Poor Man's DLSS5. An efficient new shader combining a DLSS5 look with cheap but gorgeous Bloom, Haze, and Texture Detail.
Ultra Reshade
Poor Man's DLSS5.
A highly efficient new shader, combining:
-
[]DLSS5-style Multi-stage Local Contrast (MLSC)[/]
[]Texture Detail (sharpen)[/]
[]Bloom[/]
[]Haze/Dehaze[/]
Why Another Shader?
For two reasons:
1. I Used to Run 3 Shaders 🡢 This Makes No Sense
I run bloom + local contrast + texture sharpen.
Normally local contrast is computed using 3 or 4 downsampled buffers ... but bloom also downsamples... And so does haze.... And, so can texture sharpen...
Why am I running 3 shaders that do the same things over and over again?
And, to me DLSS5 looks a bit like a 3-stage local contrast tonemapper. Meaning, one wide contrast across the whole scene, one medium, and one for fine detail (think Lightroom Clarity).
2. DLSS5 Made Me Think About Things
To me DLSS looks kind of like Lightroom Clarity, which looks like a multi-stage local contrast. But I couldn't find any shaders that worked the way I wanted.
So, as an experimented, I implemented downscale at 1/2, 1/8, 1/32, 1/128 (two octaves apart), and used these backbuffers to apply fine, medium, and broad local contrast.
And then, as I suspected, I could use the existing downsampled buffers to compute Haze/Dehaze, increase Texture Detail (using Laplacian difference), and Bloom ... Essentially for free.
Then I realized I can feed the Bloom into the Haze, which adds a nice DLSS5 "bounce" light look.
And to me this is a cheap version of how DLSS5 looks. It's still experimental. Feedback welcome. HDR and SDR supported.
