DirectStorageUpdater

DirectStorageUpdater is a lightweight standalone tool (.exe) that scans current DirectStorage .dll files, checks for available updates, perform backup of the existing version of the files and replaces them with newer version if available. Designed to simplify maintenance and keep DirectStorage components up to date without manual file handling.

Many modern games rely on DirectStorage for high-bandwidth asset streaming, but developers rarely update the underlying runtime binaries post-release. This tool fixes that.

Why?

Updating the DirectStorage components ensures you are utilizing the latest performance optimizations, critical fixes, and hardware decompression runtimes (such as GDeflate). However, the real-world performance scaling of DirectStorage is bound by your system's hardware.

Requirements

Installation & Usage

• []Download the latest DirectStorageUpdater release archive from the download section.[/]

  []Extract and place the DirectStorageUpdater.exe file directly into the game's root directory (this must be the exact folder containing the target dstorage.dll and dstoragecore.dll files).[/]

  []Launch the executable and follow the interactive console commands to update, manage versions, or restore backup.[/]

Notes

• []Per version backup are stored in the automatically created folder: "~\_backup\DirectStorage\"[/]

  []Preview versions are not generally recommended but you can try them without any problems since you can easily revert to known stable version for your game and system.[/]

  []DirectStorage works better on Windows 11, as it features an in-built storage stack optimization, compared to Windows 10 which uses worse storage stacks. [/]
