Description
This mod improves third-person controller play in Resident Evil Village VR and Shadows of Rose.
When VR_DecoupledPitch is enabled, the displayed crosshair follows the actual aiming direction of the equipped weapon.
The mod also automatically controls VR_DecoupledPitch during gameplay, events, cutscenes, forced first-person sequences, loading, and the title screen.
The crosshair correction changes only the displayed reticle position and visibility. It does not change bullet direction, damage, weapon behavior, hit detection, enemies, difficulty, or gameplay balance.
The mod was developed and tested primarily with a gamepad.
Why Play VR in Third Person?
Third-person VR provides a strong sense of scale, depth, and presence that is difficult to experience on a normal monitor, while preserving familiar controller-based gameplay.
VR_DecoupledPitch Recommended
When VR_DecoupledPitch is disabled, moving the camera vertically with the gamepad also tilts the VR view and may cause severe motion sickness.
When VR_DecoupledPitch is enabled, the vertical movement of the game camera is separated from the VR view, providing a more stable and comfortable experience.
It may feel slightly unusual at first, but after a short adjustment period it can feel similar to controlling a third-person game on a normal monitor.
Automatic VR_DecoupledPitch Control
Version 2. 0 automatically controls VR_DecoupledPitch as follows:
- OFF during game startup, loading, and on the title/main menu
- ON during normal third-person gameplay
- Temporarily OFF during cutscenes, events, and Ethan’s forced first-person sequences
- Keeps the current state during menus, the map, and pause
- Restores the user’s selected gameplay state when normal gameplay resumes
- Automatically handles playable Shadows of Rose event sequences
