Description
Game feel and visual consistency are important, especially when moving between different titles.
However, the Resident Evil series tends to handle aiming and reticle UI a little differently from game to game.
This difference becomes especially noticeable when you play Resident Evil 4 alongside other RE Engine Resident Evil titles.
If you only play RE4, it may not feel like a big issue. But if you also enjoy the other RE Engine Resident Evil games, the change in aiming feel from one title to another can feel surprisingly awkward.
That is why this mod reworks RE4's reticle to more closely match the RE2 style.
It does more than simply add a center dot to the screen. Depending on the weapon and aiming state, it displays an RE2-style reticle and center dot in a way that feels natural.
In particular, some handgun reticles that were especially difficult to handle have now been fully replaced with the RE2-style version.
Now, even when switching between different RE Engine Resident Evil games, you can keep a more familiar and consistent aiming experience.
Main features
It now supports most weapons except shotguns, with rifles also supported under certain conditions.
For supported weapons without a laser sight, the moment the reticle becomes fully contracted, the original reticle is immediately replaced with an RE2-style reticle and center dot.
For weapons equipped with a laser sight, the RE2-style reticle and center dot appear immediately when aiming, together with the laser.
Because they are displayed over the existing laser sight, they provide a clearer and more precise aiming reference than the laser alone.
Of course, weapons from Separate Ways and The Mercenaries are also supported.
In particular, some handguns that were difficult to implement in previous versions, such as the SG-09R and Punisher without laser sights, as well as the Blacktail and other pistols whose vanilla reticles fully contract, are now implemented in a complete RE2 style.
For rifles, using the newly provided RE2C_Rifle_Support.lua together with a third-person rifle mod allows you to use the RE2-style reticle and center dot with rifles as well.
One example is Third Person Rifles for Iron Sights.
※ Shotguns are shotguns.
Legacy version?
The Legacy version is provided separately for users who prefer the aiming behavior of the earlier versions.
In RE4, even weapons within the same category can have slightly different reticle lengths and maximum contraction ranges.
Some weapons still leave a noticeable amount of space in the center when fully aimed, while others, such as the SG-09R or Punisher without a laser sight, contract almost completely and leave little to no room for a center dot.
The Legacy version preserves these weapon-specific differences.
Instead of replacing the vanilla reticle with a fully RE2-style reticle, it keeps the original RE4 reticle behavior and adds a center dot only when there is enough space left in the middle after the reticle has fully contracted.
Because of this, the original reticle length and shape of each weapon are preserved, even among weapons in the same category such as handguns or submachine guns.
Unlike the current version, which standardizes supported weapons into a more complete RE2-style reticle, the Legacy version is intended for players who want to keep RE4's original reticle design while adding only an RE2-style center dot where possible.
Some weapons with little or no space remaining in the center are excluded from this Legacy behavior. If you want those weapons to use the full RE2-style reticle as well, I recommend using the current version instead.
The Legacy version does not support RE2C_Rifle_Support.lua.
